Is there a sweat spot for settings or is it down to rider weight etc?

Cheers Spoons, I'll have a look and see how the setup compares to the manual.

It's my understanding that the OEM suspension is set-up for a rider weighing around 75 kg.
I cite the book: 'Motorcycle Design and Technology' by Gaetano Cocco, p.27 para 5, in which he states that: 'The average weight of a rider, including motorcycle gear, can be estimated to be around 75 kg....'(Gaetano Cocco is an Aprilia design engineer/consultant, So, unless the spring rates were tailored to specific countries, the standard spring rates of 9.5 N/mm (F) and 90 N/mm (R) would suit a 75 kg rider.) My riding weight was in the order of 110-115 kg, so I had the standard 9.5/95 springs changed to 10.5/100. Particularly up-rating the rear, which, with OEM springs, would cause understeer on fast (110 mph) corners. (Though I have to admit, this was a track-only bike.) |
