Bit of a moan really but as I ride all year round and nearly froze my bits off last year I had to accept that my old schoeller summer gloves were no longer up to winter riding even with marigolds inside them ;)
So being fairly skint I bought a pair of akito python thermal waterproof gloves.... 1st pair arrived and the pull toggle was detached so afetr a brief exchange of emails pointing out that I would not be pating the ectra postage and mentioninjg the sale of goods act a replacement pair arrived so all ok at that point .... Now I should like to draw your attention to what I just said : I bought a pair of akito python thermal waterproof gloves. well they are neither waterproof nor thermal although to be fair its hard to judge how thermal they might be if they weren't sodden with water :( Tried emailing the customer service not even the courtesy of a reply So guess what make Ill be avoifding in future .... yup Akito and I still have to egt home luckily I thought ahead and brought the Alpine star summer gloves so they w ll be more waterproof than the Akito dishrags, ![]() |

I have Akito leathers (2 pairs) gloves and boots , all been good but then they are 5 years old now and the boots being waterproof get warn in preference to my Sidi's. Like most things quantity over quality seems to be the word today :-(

Yeah, already checked gants hill will be staying. Will it be the same or better than it was though? Their stock levels were becoming sh*te and prices becoming ridiculous on basic stuff

Didn't realise they had shut stores think my local is still open!
I got some cheap gloves from Blackbush market and they do the job! I do however need a warm coat over my leathers. |

HG Tuareg gear gets me through 5/6 years and still going strong. Just two zip pullers replaced with keyring circles which are much better especially when trying to wet your numb fingers ;)
My budget bin schoeller gloves lasted even longer. I have given in to some elements and bought some heated inners for this year Just can't use them as the Akito crap is too wet to stick electrics in there. On the plus side found an unused pair of triumph boots to hopefully get me through this winter. My SIDI boots have failed only after a couple of years so am going to try and resell them with some craft rubber solution LOL |

Having ridden for 10 years every day, sometimes through snow drifts(!) in winter over an 80 mile commute, I can honestly say that no winter glove I've ever tried has been thermally efficient for more than 30 minutes and very few if any remain waterproof for more than a season. The very best I've ever had were a pair of Richa armoured gloves I paid about 80 squid for..still got them 8 years on although they're no longer waterproof for long nor as warm as the thermal lining has packed down.
Therein lies the issue with gloves. Irrespective of what manufacturers claim, its the thickness of the insulation that matters with sub zero wind chill. After extended regular use, all gloves will have the thermal linings pack down and therefore reduce the effectiveness of the insulation. Waterproof membranes unless goretex will have a coating over a breathable PU material which with lots of flexure will eventually develop cracks in the coatings and break down so they're no longer waterproof. I had a pair of those weird two fingered gloves which made you look like a lobster and they had very thick insulation and were better than most but also awkward when using controls like indicators and light switches so cant recommend for that reason. It you're doing lots of winter riding then heated gloves are a great solution. Other than that, you do tend to get what you pay for with gloves and the best cost decent cash. On a shoe string, the Richa textile winter glove is one of the best budget ones I've had (there's a pattern here....Richa gloves are pretty good IMHO). Akito gloves IMHO are not up to much.

I also ride through winter and to give you an idea of how crap those gloves are I put a pair of latex and my alpine star lightweights SP kept me warmer and drier than the brand new Akito tissues

Well ordered some Richa Turbo winter gloves for 20£ delivered. Basically I have had good experience with Richa and they cannot be worse than the Akito unless they are Akito by a different name ;)

Hi,
The water proof gloves should be The designing of the mitten allows the fingers to sit together and the added warmth keeps them warmer. In addition, when you need to be outside for longer periods, a hand warmer can be inserted all the way to the tip.

Got a second pair of Richa Summit for about 8£ plus postage very good condition now they are nice and fit quite snug in a good way. The other Riicha are same size but much bigger
So will be good with the inner heated gloves I have wired up. Now if I ever get an answer of Akito I can try to figure out why the waterproof gloves aren't :( |
