just to throw another thought into it

me i take mine with me

Neat idea to keep the casual thief at bay. I'm sure a set of bolt croppers would get you through in seconds though.

Couldn't agree more!! Parking can be a nightmare at times but I used to go in the 90's to the milk bar in sherburn and parking was something else back then, good times though!

Yeah I agree, my only beef is I guess that motorcyclist have changed and not necessarily for the better!! Lots of new riders don't nod or wave and it's like they've lost the commrardary

that's true pal ,its not as much fun as it was 15/20 years ago neither with all the police & cameras every where .a lot of roads by me have 20 mph limit now its a joke .i think that's why bikers are stopping road riding & doing trackdays instead

Yeah that's true, think a bit part of the trouble was when bikes became status symbols for people to buy with spare cash. When I was younger you made a choice a car or a bike, pretty much you were a pyriah for choosing the bike!! Guess that's why we all stuck together!! Maybe it's just me getting old and grumpy!! I don't begrudge anyone buying a new bike even if they can't ride it but when they walk about or ride about without acknowledging other bikers and have no interest in bikes really I get mad!!

I got a mivv off one of the guys on here, sounds ok and better than the micron that was on it but I like a loud exhaust!!! Once I've slowed down the spending on the bike I'm going to go to Zorstec and get them on the case!

got to agree about new bikers, not sure if its because most haven't started on smaller bikes and went up in sizes of cc as you could afford them. I started on an ap50 then onto 125s etc.  now most that are starting out have enough money to shell out on the latest superbike,  in the 70s/80s it was transport and passion not a trophy. no doubt i will get shot down in flames for this, oh well

I think you are right to a degree, my first love was cars but I have been riding now for twenty years (Did start on a 600 as a weekend toy though - GSX600F - not the fastest 600 but great to learn some skills on just the same). Listening to everyones nostalga stories makes me a little jealous but we had much the same experiences with cheap cars when we were young that we kept going with home-made bodges. I'm an engineer by profession and love anything mechanical, I've had my fun driving and racing cars but love riding as well although bikes only on the road up till now. Actually I had one bike track experience day at Cadwell (Great track) on a Yamaha 600 many years ago that I won in a competition.

I think at the end of the day it depends upon the individual and their attitude. If the the only people a new rider knows are other new riders who started on superbikes then I guess they might have a different approach to if they started riding with some long time riders (I did).

The real issue though is that kids go straight to cars now and most don't think about bikes. People in the industry have been trying to tackle this for years (Longer than I've been riding) and don't seem to have had much success. I don't know the answer to that one!

If cars had been as easy and cheap to get when I was young I wouldn't have bothered with two wheels either.

Think about it,out of the rain,a back seat for sh*gging on,a decent stereo and room to go out with your mates compared with being cold, wet and a moving target for anyone on 4 wheels to aim at.

Sign of the times I reckon

I've also got totally p*ssed off with road riding these days, you spend too much time looking for hidden cameras,Plod etc and it takes away from the riding experience I find, much more satisfying being on track as at least you can concentrate.

Yeah I can remember been 18, inherited some money and blew it all on a two year old nc30!! Six months into owning it I had to sell my fiesta 1.1 to buy some tyres!!! Rose tinted glasses but the weather was better, the music was better, the roads were better, no police about and fun fun fun!! In reality it was all as sh*t as is now but you just forget them bits with age. It's a genuine concern that kids don't want bikes now but I don't know what could be done to alter that

I think as mentioned above, its all down to the individuals attitude. I started out on 125s, then an sv after test at 21 now have the ape. I have always held the utmost respect for all fellow riders, and have often stopped when a bikes parked up thinking they had broken down only to be reassured, thanked for the thought and sent on my way. A while back a few of us stopped for a brew and there was a bunch of proper old gits [:^:] on steeds from wartime era. Had a bloody good laugh with em, remember one saying his tiny single cyl on his bike made about 12bhp and seeing the shock on his face when we told him our bhp/top speeds!! These dudes must have been about 80 and despite them and us being from two different ends of the spectrum, we all had a laugh sharing something we all had in common, a love for biking of any description.

Hope when I'm 80 I'm still about and riding!!! It's definitely not everyone on a bike who's changed over the years as all the people on here seem to prove they are proper bikers and interested in biking!

haha, gotta love the banter on here, excellent that plenty of 'old gits' are willing to share their experiences and laughs, I haven't grown up in those times so the only way us future old gits can realise what it was like is by hearing it from others....besides I'm catching you all up....29 this year, feck me better get me pipe n slippers ready
