Hi everyone hope you are all staying safe.
I have A 2005 RSV FACTORY. Had bike serviced three weeks ago, spark plugs and new rocker covers.
Went for a blast to day first ride since service. After about two miles slowed down to turn left. When I accelerated red warning light came on and bike will not rev past 2500 revs in any gear. It is like the bike has a pit lane limiter. Bike does not cut out and will tick over, in neutral bike will not rev past 2500 revs.
Any ideas please. It revs stops revs, revs stop revs. I will try and get photo of red warning triangle light,it is beside 1 on rev counter.
It's not the wand it's the wizard behind it.

The warning is generic in as much as it just tells you that the ecu has thrown a code. If it determines the code is for something that might be a safety issue to rider or bike it enables limp mode ( revs restricted below 3k)

Put the dash in code display mode and run it up and see what code it throws. Chances are it’s something like code 47 for the oil pressure sensor or maybe a lambda issue.

Hold in the lap button and turn on the ignition. Keep holding it in for about 20 seconds. It won’t display stored ecu codes, only those that occur whilst the code mode is enabled. So you need to run the bike and try and get it to fail again before turning off the ignition.

You can only get stored codes via the dealer pads software or an axone

Unless it comes up whilst engine running that is. In which case it is what it says, fuel system fault.

Best to ride it in diag mode and see what pops up. If f you got it into diag mode correctly you won’t get an engine temp reading as that’s where it displays the code.

I’d do usual checks , bleed , flush and refill.

If waters not going around it’s either a blockage or the water pump impeller has come off or similar. Whilst I can’t imagine that a common issue it’s getting on a bit so a pump failure may happen

No coolant in reservoir. when I looked in where radiator cap is no coolant. Now I know what problem is.
Do I need to flush and bleed system or can I top up with coolant.
Cheers.

It’s a doddle
Last I did mine I removed lower hoses to rad and the thermostat. Think there may well be a rad bleed nipple on the bottom also? I forget off hand. Flushed it all through with a hose and reconnected the hoses.
When refilling, I used premix. Loosened the upper bleed screw on the right side top by the filler neck and filled till it started to come out and then tightened the top bleed hose.
Started it up then watched the level drop as water was sucked around and filled to the neck. Cap on and let it get to temp. Once cool took cap off and check level. Expansion tank can have a small amount in up to the level though I don’t always on race bike etc with no issue.

If you’ve no coolant I would check your hoses for splits.
Concern here is where has it gone. Did it have coolant/antifreeze in it over winter? Either it’s leaking out a hose or leak in the rad or hopefully not, it’s being blown out the back with a knackered head gasket perhaps.
First thing is clean it out and refill. Check all hoses and rad first

Interesting that you had a service only a month ago. Did they mention the reservoir. Actually it's not a reservoir, it's an expansion tank but would usually have fluid in up to the cold/hot level as appropriate as you don't want it pulling air in the system when it cools.

Blown head gasket could also blow all of the fluid out of the expansion tank from overpressure

Update with issue. I today bled radiator and all that came out was less than a litre of coolant. So I flushed out with hose. Took top hose off behind expansion tank, took out bleed screws. Put all back filled with distilled water. Warmed up two fan cut in cycles. Let cool topped up went for spin. Temp at 73c highest 77c. No sign of leaks and no warning light. Hopefully sorted. Thank you all for advice and help.
