So, there are rumors that Maverick Viñales could join Aprilia next year. I've not been terribly impressed by him this year - apart from a few excellent performances, he has mostly languished way down the field, while his team mate is running around at the front and leading the championship. He does seem to have some issue with Yamaha, so maybe that's affecting his performance and he'd be alright at another team? Or maybe the rumours are to try and push Dovi to sign? Interested to hear what other MotoGP fans think.

I’d be surprised if he did go to Aprilia firstly and then expect to do better than he currently is with Yamaha.
He is Lorenzo esq in his riding and doesn’t like being in the mix. If it was a time trial and no one else about he’d win more, but sadly for Maverick it isn’t. I’m still also doubt Dovi will ride the aprilia until it starts to get a podium. However I’d love to be wrong and see both of them on Aprilia next year. Get to see if the Aprilia has any real potential or not. Espargaro has been a real tough rider on it but he is at his max and is unlikely to get a ride elsewhere let alone a factory one. Rossi was well overdue retirement IMO also. Next year has lots to look forward to. Especially if Marc gets back to his full form. Last two races he has been seriously impressive. |

Sort of feel like Espargaro has sort of settled down on the Aprilia and made a career on it. Happy to just keep getting a paycheck and GP seat. Can also then blame his lack of success on the bike. Think he's always been the more senior rider in the team hasn't he? With Vinales there it would be interesting to see if he'll be any quicker than Espargaro. Would be good to see Aprilia no longer being an embarrasment in racing wouldn't it.

Well, he's confirmed the split from Yamaha! I wonder if they'll look to bring Morbidelli up to the factory team - he's done such great work on an old bike so far.

Probably Morbidelli. I have this theory that ultimately Joe Roberts will get a factory Yamaha seat. Follow his dad's footsteps maybe. Be good branding for them anyway.

Yup confirmed the split so I guess he is seeing what offers happen perhaps.
Morbidelli has got to be the main replacement especially Ashe felt earlier he wasn’t on the factory equivalent in petronas.

Don't want to see him anywhere near an Aprilia, he's like Lorenzo and throws his toys outs the pram when things don't go his way.
A Espargaro has made a career riding the bikes through CRT to the present day and Aprilia have had some good riders that could get nowhere on the bike. Yes give the Yamaha ride to Franki, bring Jake up from moto2 to Petronas yam and give Wee Phee the moto2 ride. Just my take on things.

Much as I like Morbidelli, I don't think Yamaha do so much. Think it's only Petronas supporting him really, otherwise I can't see why they wouldn't have already given him a factory bike. So I'm not sure he'll get the factory seat.
With how Jake Dixon's been doing I can't see him getting a GP ride anytime soon either. Be interesting to see if McPhee makes it into moto2. Not really sure why he hasn't moved already. No luck that lad.

From what I gathered Franki got the old bike because the Patronas team could only afford 1 bike and with all that Vale has done for Yamaha the factory bike was always going to be his.
Dorna are keen to get another Brit into the top class and Jake got Wee Phees crew chief to try and improve his results.

Yes, I'd heard the same about the cost of the bike. If I was Yamaha I'd move Morbidelli up to the factory team before he ends up riding for someone else and bring some prospective talent into the Petronas team. If Rossi does leave, which seems very likely, they'll have two seats to fill. Maybe Gerloff in one.

Gerloff? Can't see them bringing him across instead of Toprak. I think it far more likely they'll bring someone from moto2, rather than WSBK. I keep thinking Roberts.
Good to know Mad Dog. So if Petronas only had enough for one bike of course they'd give it to FQ.

i actually feel a sadness when i see rossi these days,
he should of retired at the top, losing the factory ride should of been a wakeup call for him, or why not pull a biagi.

True, but you also have to respect that he just loves riding so much that he wants to be racing. Too many sportspeople end up just seeing their sport as a job and losing the love of the activity that got them there in the first place, which I always think is sad. In fairness, if I was offered a Moto GP ride I'd happily be slowest and last just for the chance to ride one of those bikes!

Sorry I meant when he was back on Petronas. Petronas got a factory bike for Fabio but not for Franco. He still hasn't got one has he? And I bet Petronas have a factory bike that Rossi is probably using.

Yep, Petronas could only afford 1 2021 bike and gave it to Rossi, probably a bit of leverage from Yamaha there.
Dorna are keen to get a Brit and an American back into MotoGP, so I recon either Gerlof or Roberts and Dixon if he improves. |

Big if but I hope Dixon does improve. Think he's found the transition hard. Think he said to start with he was seconds off the pace before he realised all the other lads were using a lot of rear brake. He'd never touched his as he'd never needed it on the superbike. Different style completely on GP bikes it seems.

Well, Aprilia have confirmed Vinales for 2022. I wonder how they eally feel about him given the nonsense with Vinales over the last 10 days. I'd have been getting the lawyers to look for a way out of the contract!

I think it's only a one year contract for starters, so he'll have to behave and perform.

I have heard that he has said that he is going back to Suzuki.
I hope none of the teams sign him, he has a troubled mind and needs help, or he is another typical Spanish Lorenzo type who throws his toys out of the pram when things don't go his way.

one of the only differences would be that lorenzo actually won moto GP titles against some of the best riders of the time, Maverick if not anything is highly inconsistent.

Ok
So I’m playing Devils advocate here… Whilst I’m not a fan of his strops, I see these young gifted rich men no different to many football players.
Admittedly I have zero interest in football but you see worst behaviour and no real penalties (yay) applied to them on or off the pitch realistically. Least none I’ve really paid attention to at least. And if you know of many to tell me it will fall on deaf ears anyway. So yeah Mav was a petulant knob in his riding-I’d argue what he says about lack of support and poor treatment, is no real different to anyone else who feels unsupported by a manufacturer for his poor results. Last week he would of probably been first or second if there wasn’t a KTM/Aprilia explosion. So or me it’s the childish tantrum that is the biggest issue (and possibly the criminal damage to a scooter on top of ensuring the Rev limiter was working and preventing damage) However I’d be happy to give him a go on the aprilia, as let’s face it, he is on the back foot. Less salary and tighter constraints on a contract. What he did ‘could of been dangerous’ if the Yamaha went bang. Fabio however actually discarded a piece of safety equipment and rode around with his leathers open leaving a hazard on a bend. He should of been black flagged (wasn’t) and we even have Fenati back in Moto 3 after suspension for actually doing something criminally dangerous. Mav won’t be on mega money and has to try and let his results do the talking now. It’s all on him. If he performs better than espargaro, and I’m sure he thinks he can, then he is able to move onwards and develop. If he cocks up he can kiss goodbye to Moto-gp. And if he has a meltdown and tries to overrev his aprilia then I’m sure it will bite him back. He will void any contract for misbehaving and then we can wait for Ianonne to come back in 2023 😂 I’m glad he is riding, as it makes it interesting and when his blood is up, he is excellent. Aprilia would be missing out on development of a bike as even though he now has history of being a chopper, then Aprilia can take what they can from him and mug him off end of the year. I think Dovi missed out, but you can bet he is hoping for one of the satellite yam seats. But he won’t get one with all the young talent pushing up. |

If he thinks Yamaha is lacking in support then he won’t last five minutes at Aprilia especially if results don’t come his way. Ducati are much the same, hero when your getting results, zero the moment you have a bad run.

I hear that Jake Dixon is confirmed as the Petronas rider for Silverstone, and Cal moves up to the factory Yam after Maverick and Yamaha have parted company.

And with that immediate departure of Vinales from Yamaha as a result of those two Brit moves. Bet he must feel a bit of a plonker now |

Perhaps another change of race number and crew chief will work wonders.......hmmmmm. I've never been a huge fan of Maverick, but he has proved how good he can be with the season opener in Qatar.

But that's really his big problem - he can be good and win races, but mostly doesn't. As you say, he won in Qatar, but normally find himself trundling round in 12th to 15th place in a race. He has the potential, but is way too inconsistent and emotional to ever win a championship. Aprilia should have looked for a potential champion and Vinales isn't it.
