Topic: V4 RR 2019 mod questions?Posted: 29 Sep 2020 at 11:18 |

Hi Chaps,
I've had my V4 RR for a few months now and I'd like to make a few mods. 1. I'm not getting the feel I'd like from the rear shock (Sachs) and wondered what my options are. a. get it re-valved and/or resprung, b. swap it out for a different shock unit (Nitron, DDS, Ohlins, other) 2. I'd like to swap out the chain and sprockets and go up a couple of teeth on the back. Any recommendations on sizes and sprockets/chains? 3. Tail tidy - found a nice looking one by a company called J-Tech. Looks sturdy and well made (and only 29 quid). Anyone used these in the past? 4. Rear tyre size - I've heard going up to a 60 section on the rear can improve the handling? 5. The Leo Vince exhaust I bought is a bit on the load side. Any ideas on how I could quieten it down a bit? Thanks in advance, Cheers. |

Hi
Just my thoughts 1 a or b depending on your budget 2 personal taste but all decent brands , Renthal, Talon , DID etc will be great so it’s more the cosmetic appeal for me there be it colours or general appearance. 3 seen them look as good as the others with a keener price. I’ve a R&G one but now think the Evotech one is the better one for its finish. 4 it will allow it to turn in a bit faster and a lot of race rubber is 60 profile. I used it on the race bike but I wasn’t left breathless by it. At a guess it’s more pricey but the theory is sound on the profile of you go by the swap from 50 to 55 profile improving the faster turn in. Of note the front slicks are now 125 width not 120 not that it applies here 5 have you disabled the exhaust valve? If so, refitting the cable will make a small difference but you’re kinda stuck there as it is a noisy beast with any end can over the standard one. I assume it has a baffle? if it’s anything like my akrapovic however, it makes no real difference I found. Other than change the can back to oem or fit a restrictive replacement baffle I’m not aware of a way to quieten it unless the Leo Vince is not a new can and needs a repack. Sorry not a lot of help

Hi,
Thanks for replying. It was helpful ;-) The Leo Vince exhaust has no EXUP type valve so I can't refit the cables. It has a baffle which I took out, packed with exhaust packing material and refitted, but I'm not hopeful it will make much difference. I've put the original back on for now. I've found a new Ohlins RSV shock online that will fit my RR but I'm just deciding if the spring is too stiff for my weight at 95Nm (The vendor says it will fit my bike). With my gear on and my back pack I'm probably around 90kg? In terms of sprocket sizes, any ideas on what I should go up to? Just a couple more on the back maybe? Thanks. |

Good point on cables
I forgot the valve is in the oem box of course 😂 Silly me I can’t recall the spring rates but I’m a little heavier and my both my Gen2’s run a heavier spring as I’m sure someone said standard was designed for lighter small persons but I forget the limits set. I could look on it but 105? is in my head I find mine is lively on std gearing and lifts on power so not so far had the urge to down-gear it like I had done on previous bikes. But two teeth, I would say will make it easier in town at low revs as I only notice a bit of grumpiness in revs there. I tend to run first on slow tight stuff like mini roundabouts and carry revs rather than clutch slip in second gear. So maybe try two up to start and if it a good then get a new front and chain then if required rather than splash out on it all immediately. You will know within a few minutes so not like you’re going to wear a rear out with an older chain. I can’t recall off hand the front sprocket (15t?) if it is a 15 you can’t go smaller or the chain doesn’t like going around it. If it’s a 16 tooth drop to a 15t and that will be noticeable before upping the rear teeth |

I'm trying to find 525 pitch renthal front/rear sprockets for my bike, a2019 RR, but no one lists them for that year. Is the model fitment the same as a 2015 or 2017 for example? Thanks. BTW. Is a 525 pitch safe if using a good quality cahin such as a DID VX Gold X-Ring?

A 520 chain is perfectly safe, nearly all race bikes pushing over 200hp run them, call b&c express, I’d be amazed if they don’t stock them for it.

They are the same So choose which way you wish to go from the oem gearing stamped on the sprockets then grab whatever make or pitch you want either 525 or 520 sets

Thanks everyone for the advice. Went for a 525 pitch. Ordered a Renthal front sprocket (standard 15t), Renthal gold rear sprocket +1 (43) and a Gold Renthal RSR chain.
