Topic: Strange helmet fogging issuePosted: 17 Dec 2024 at 16:08 |

I'm experiencing a strange problem with my visor - I've ridden year-round for years and not come across this issue before, so any insights would be welcome.
I have a Shoei Neotec 3 that I bought earlier this year. Recently, as we have come into damp, visor-fogging weather, the visor keeps fogging on one side only. It starts around the right-hand visor hinge (beyond the pinlock insert) and then grows outwords and starts to mist the right hand side of the visor. For the life of me I can't think why it is always the right side only, when the left stays clear. Any bright ideas would be very welcome!

That is an odd one. The vents blocked on one side? Presumably the standard visor with anti-fog coating? Possible a faulty coating on the visor? |

Garin on here has one and he had some partial fogging issues on a recent tour we did. I’m sure his came with a pinlock, has yours not got one ?

That's a good point Spoonz. My Shoei has a pinlock and I've never had the slightest hint of fogging.

Yes, it has a pinlock fitted. But the fogging starts all the way over where the visor attaches to the helmet, so outside of the area covered by the pinlock insert, and then grows outward, and onto the insert - they aren't designed to stop that sort of fogging because there is a lot of moisture.
I can't see any difference between the two sides of the helmet.

That is what Garin’s helmet did. Fogged from the hinge forward to the pinlock. I don’t know if it was both sides or if he fixed it though. I have a Shuberth C5 which fogs a small amount around the pinlock as well but not enough to be a problem.
Is the seal tighter on one side maybe ?

Can you adjust the hinge position, might not be sitting tight enough on the seal on that side.

Not found a solution, mines a Shoei GT Air 2, and it does fog from the hinge to the edge of the pinlock, I think it does it both sides, only a small amount but very annoying all the same, cuts your vision down when your doing a shoulder check and just where you want the maximum vision available when over taking, especially on motorways etc. My previous Schuberth Helmet never seemed to have an issue or my Shark helmet. Unfortunately not a problem that shows up until you use the helmet, its put me off buying another Shoei.
