Hi mate

I ran 15/44 for a good few miles.
Very lively in lower gears, 3 gear wheelies and still genuine 140 top end.
Trouble was 1st gear was almost redundant, could pull away in 2nd easy.
No run 15/42 and I think it is a better gearing for real life road riding.
2003 RSV Streetfighter/Tuono thingy, and 2003 Multistrada.

15/42 (2.8) is almost identical ratio to 16/44 (2.75) - a 1.8% difference which is about 11-13% lower than stock - so it's no surprise people on here are saying they are happy with both. 15/44 (2.93) is 19% lower than stock whuch is a huge difference so no wonder it wheelied everywhere! I guess it might depend what chain you are running. I would tend to go with a 16 I think as you are not asking the chain to hold such a tight radius round the front sprocket.

That's what I was wondering about Confused

effectively losing a gear, although I'm not bothered about what it feels like on the road as I don't plan on doing much road riding from now on,I just want more instant grunt out of corners on tight tracks.

For the sake of around £20 ish and half an hours play it's worth it I reckon.

Tried that combo for a couple of years and found it far too long, even 16/44 seems a bit long so if 15/44 ends up a bit short perhaps 16/46 might be ideal given that going down a tooth on the front roughly equals going up 3 on the back.

Would need a longer chain then I suppose, but as I only generally play on tighter tracks anyway ultimate top speed isn't an issue.

Really?  Confused

I'm intrigued now, I did have a gearing program on one of my Pc's I'll have to hook up some old HDD's and try and find it.

It's possibly somewhere in between the the two if all the decimal places are counted

Whatever,I find 16/44 a bit long so I'll try 15/44 and take it from there,I'm sure the sweet spot will be somewhere in between.

I run 16/44 on my Tuoldo, it makes riding through the 30s and 40 zones much easier, also makes it easier to lift the front wheel. Best mod so far and that includes end can and chip.

I switched to 16/44 on my Tuono and it was like night and day, its just suits the engine spot on.

Just done the RSV now and feel the same, its a great mod and just suits the engine down to the ground
No bike 🙈

Don't really need a program as it's only two numbers, one divided into the other. Change by one rear tooth from a 44 gives a 2.27% change in gearing. Change by one front tooth from a 16 and you change the gearing by 6.25%. So in this case, a 1 tooth change to the front is the same as 2.75 teeth change at the rear.

That was easy explained like that Clap

Ok, 2.75 is nearer 3 than 2 so I win  Wink

I had a feeling it was somewhere between the two but I couldn't be arsed to think about it any more.

Just a quick question guys got another sprocket carrier yesterday and it came with a new 40 tooth sprocket so being a tight arse fitted it:-) as in my mind using the bike for commuting and not playing at mo thought giving it longer legs and keeping the rpm lower will save me fuel

Anyone see any problems with fitting it though?

I'm running 17/42 on my gen1 but they need changing. The bikes for road use only, I don't find it slow!!! I'm thinking about 16/43. Does anyone use that and also does anyone know what chain length I need?!

16/44 does seem to be more popular so might go for that. 108 chain ok then?
