Got a fire blade rr 1996 from the bay today

So set about fitting my new (for me) stable stand. Oops thats where it started to go wrong. WIll list Them as i found them

1 - my old stand had fell over on me last summer so i was never sure if all was good with it. so unbolted and removed (side stand switch bolt is 8 mm and stand bolts are 13mm)

2 - the side stand switch was fooked ( when i had hastily re bolted it up when it fell over had crushed the wires)

3 - they all looked the same and i was happy with this. Until i measured the bolt hole gaps from each bracket. dam it they are smaller on the new one.

4 - Ok so i think balls this is a bodge job if ever i seen one. i unbolt my original stand from the bracket . Which was a 17mm nut and i think a 14mm bolt and the two springs.

5 - Then do the same with my new bracket. 14 mm bolt and nut ?? all other dimensions are the same though.

6 - so now i have my new side stand and old bracket and proceed to bolt them together (woohoo they are the same in dimensions etc) and it all goes well

7 - Side stand switch is fooked i can see bare wires (8mm bolt to remove from stand). A quick call to AP (lol i dunno if it was lewis or Gary or Griff but i blabbed gen 1 side stand switch what wires LOL) they said the two outer ones (lol this is even better as i now have the switch in one hand and the wires in my other as its just snapped off)

8 - My brain is mashed now i have been soaked all week doing ride outs on the bike and was wanting to get all the little jobs finished IE rear light / exhaust / steering damper etc so i go for it

9 - the only wire i didn't connect was the green one. the other two was a black one and i can't for the fook of me remember the other one.

10 turn on ignition and BOOM she starts ( i now have no idiot light to tell me the stand is down though)

11 - rebolt my old bracket / new leg side stand back in place and wheel her out the garage and onto my front path for a visual / test run

Yes she sits a little more upright and the leg itself also sits a little further out but as i see it a little further forward also which makes it look and feel safer straight away.
Down side is the little pin which ya hook ya boot onto to push it down is closer to the gear change lever so will have to remember that as i will almost certainly hit it with my boot cuff.

Time for job probably just over the hour and a half. But if it had been a straight swap 20 mins max. Sorry for the wanky write up and no pics i just wanted done in the end. My bad also as i need a proper clean of the bike and i was covered in chain grease and road grime also.

that was the new stand before i bodged it

I think the blade stand mod has always involved retaining the original bracket mate? As in, you only use the leg from the blade and bolt it onto the RSV bracket.

I wasn't even aware the older ones fitted at all, I thought it was only 04 through to 07!

I thought it was 04-07 too. I've got a 96 stand in the cupboard that I bought about 4 years ago. Might have to try it as was looking to buy one when I get paid as had to fork out for a new solinoid first lol.
If its not broken then fix it until it is

LOL that will explain why it cost 20 quid then. Was like new though with springs and switch bolt. i will add that to fit the switch it goes on the back of my one unlike the ape one which goes on the front.

I can tell you the later alloy 'blade ones don't fit , and even if you make it fit when the wind blows the bike rocks around that much I was convinced the stand would snap Unhappy

Might still try it. Not had my bike long and there are lots of little bits I need to sort. Currently gets leant against a wall where ever I go as my stand dissapeard completely when I was riding lol. Was set to buy one from the shop as had price in my head ready for when I got paid but my solinoid failed so had to sort that first. Should be here tomorrow. Hopefully.
