Topic: Rear brake pad backing plates...Posted: 18 Jul 2016 at 20:39 |

Quick question for you boys....
When I whipped off the fake rear caliper at the weekend and reinstalled the original one, I put the new SBS pads that I'd got for the new caliper into the old one(the original pads were about shot) and noticed that on the original Brembo pads were some metal backing plates that cover half of the back of the pad...I swapped these over onto the new SBS pads and fitted it all, bled it through etc and now the rear disc is really dragging, much more than it ever has or that I've ever noticed... So my question is, are the backing plates necessary? Or are they only for Brembo pads and shouldn't go on SBS pads? |

The SBS ones dont need the backing plate, its essentially an anti squeal shim but the SBS backing plates are marginally thicker.

Interesting,I replaced my original Brembo pads with SBS and there were no backing plates behind the originals?
Someone probably removed them years ago I suppose, obviously didn't need them |

Just put a very fine coating of anti sieze compound (coppa slip) and you're good to go.
Keep it off the seals though. |
