I got a few bits and pieces for my 2002 Mille from a breaker and he told me he had this shock at a good price so I picked it up. However, when it arrive, it had "99 R" written on it and the part no. "AP8240". I've checked out the part numbers for 1999 and 2002 and they are different. Will it fit my bike or is it a non runner?

From 01 > the linkage and dog bone changed so the shock was matched to that change probably with valving mods and maybe a different spring.
Physically it will fit but may need some tweeking to handle sweetly or get the dogbone, triangles to match the same year.

Right, thanks Spoonz. So I was just about to edit my post because I have been quite dim... I think I actually have the corresponding linkage for the Ohlins shock (I bought the linkage first because I needed the bushes for my bike and I was going to chuck the rest- I bought the shock because I had a box of bits coming and thought it was a bargain. It has just dawned on me that they may be from the same bike.
The pic shows my original linkage on top and the used one below.
![]() Does the triangular linkage match the Ohlins shock? If so, will they fit my 2002 Mille?

Yep that linkage is for the shock.
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work fine if you match the 2. check out the bearings before fitting it though.

Phew!! That's a relief.
I think the bearings aren't great but it'll be a while before I get to use it anyway. The plan was simply to refurbish the swingarm and dogbones and work away with the Sachs. I'll probably have the Ohlins rebuilt in the near future and fit the lot before the end of the summer. The main thing is that it'll fit and it's still a bargain!
