Hi guys, this IS my first post in the forum but I only stumbled across it after looking through the Aprilia Performance web page.

I have a big issue with the bottom of my fuel tank, after talking to Griff @AP I took the pump out to examine the bottom of the tank and inspect the original seal. What I've found is the tank has actually warped just as Griff said it would (will post pics if I can) and sufficiently enough to lift away from the seal! I also noticed the sensor and pump cable attached to the pump plate via a plug had its seal extruding from it and also leaking!

I've replaced the small seal but can see that the sensor plug has bowed at the mating surface and not making as much an impact on the seal as you would want. Now it might be enough but not sure until refilled and tested.

The main seal is back in place and I will refit the pump once I have sourced an appropriate fuel resistant sealant.

Thanks for the help and advice Griff, will let you know the end outcome.

Curt

Was there water in the tank?
Don't use hi ethanol petrol (super market ) .
The tank should - might pop back to shape if you keep it warm and dry .

Bathroom silicon sealant (Acetoxy curing silicon!)is fuel proof and is what is sealing my tank.
I no longer use normal unleaded due to ethanol content. Super only for me.

Super contains ethanol as does diesel . all ALL petrol you can buy contains ethanol its legislation and it don't matter where you buy it from .

Possibly, depending where in the country you buy it I believe.

Someone did go into this in detail on our old forum, as I recall Shell declined to confirm their Optimax was dosed with Ethanol so we can assume that is as well.

Further I read somewhere recently that we are due to follow the Yanks this year and double the Ethanol content.

I can see alloy tanks being a good trade to get into.

The new EU rules just specify that 10% of fuel in the supply chain has to come from renewable sources. Not waht those sources are.

Those renewable sources are under discussion and a new study done for the transport ministry has suggested a reduction in corn and food stuff ethanol as it harms food prices and make more use of the oil that gets dumped every year (cooking oil, car oil etc) which can all be recycled into new fuels.

So there is some hope that things might not get any worse or possibly better.
