Not a good sign for the health of the motorcycle industry.

A chain of West Country dealers went pop yesterday as well so it’s not a good trading environment. Having said that Ktm are partly to blame as they consistently produced bike numbers that outstripped demand and every winter had to shed stock at huge discounts which undermined the resale value of their bikes.  If you paid say £18k for a nice adventure bike in June and in November they are being sold at £14k then your six month old bike is worth £12k so a 1/3 depreciation. You would be a bit pissed at that. Add to that the cam issues and lacklustre initial response to dealing with it and what is already a tough situation further erodes customer confidence.

I see there has been an update on the Ktm situation.

The Ktm stake in MV Augusta is up for sale. MV have cut production and lowered salaries by 20% as a result.
Ktm can continue trading until jan 25th whilst talks with investors continue ( 3 potential investors but not sure whether they want the company or just parts of it)
Ktm propose to only repay 30% of their debts to creditors (£1.8 billion). Production is shut down at least until feb. Currently still about 130,000 unsold bikes in storage warehouses worldwide. The workforce will be cut to 300, from about 500.  unconfirmed rumours MotoGP project is dead. No news on Husky, GasGas etc.

I can see some good deals to be had in the new year, I can't see them going under but certainly see them offloading Husky and Gas Gas. It wouldn't surprise me if they pull out of Moto GP, not so sure about Moto 2 and 3 as they are more relevant to there road bikes, small capacity bikes are on the rise. They didn't help themselves entering the bicycle market, massive overstretch !

I suspect that if it’s a buyout by a new entity ( cfmoto owner seems fav) then it may only want the brand and some of its products and maybe not based in Austria.  If it’s a rescue deal for a % then maybe it survives as is with a smaller footprint.  I doubt the Ktm group is unique in feeling the pinch either.
