I run a 180/60 on the gixer as its a 750 but cheers for asking. Probably got one more day out of the rear and it's likely next week will be the last until almeria in Feb and I'll put a fresh set on. Weather is looking kind for Friday mate.

The black one is for sale if anyone is interested, it’s a stunning piece of kit and way better than me, the old adage of all the gear and no idea with it and then I bought the other one 😁, I’ve got cadwell on the new one on the 29th with training so hopefully it’ll be dry.

I sold the black r1 Saturday morning so some funds are back in the bank, Andy who I bought the new one from came to cadwell on Friday and gave me a few pointers and helped until dinner, he also had a brand new set of dymag’s with new Pfm discs and new slicks in tyre bags that I did a deal on, saved about a grand, badapple was there also on his gixxer so was good to meet him after many years talking on here. The training definitely helped and I finally got my bogey corners sorted which was Charlie’s one and two, running the bike wide over a blind crest was disconcerting but I got it eventually.

Really good to finally meet up mate and a brilliant day all round. No reds and sunshine ☀ just lost a couple of sessions at the start of the day.

I went out first thing, it was interesting on slicks on a wet track on a bike I’d never ridden before, it was good that Andy the previous owner came and gave me a few pointers with the bike.

Cheers dude, it’s a serious piece of kit, I did think about getting a 600 originally that I could learn on and not worry about to much but that soon went out the window.

im with you on this, i hired a cbr600 at Silverstone, was laughably slow, hired an R1 and it was like i was finally riding a bike round a track, took the mile R to 3 different tracks and that really showed its age on the straights i could barley keep up with old R6's
what type of power does it make? i have seen a few come up really short around the 160 mark like the blade of the same year - when i was at MSS with my V4 they said that they are happy if they can get one to 175rw

Track riding is fun and everyone is different so it depends on what you want to get out of it. A modern 1000cc+ superbike is going to be exciting and scary but with the electronics looking after you most can go out and enjoy themselves in relative safety. I have been riding on track now for 15 years but only the last 4-5 seriously and I learnt to ride a very old 600 to its absolute limit ( embarrassing many a v4 until the straight ) until I felt like I was going to crash big time trying to squeeze an extra second a lap out of it before moving upto the 750. On most UK circuits a well ridden 600 or even less will be quicker than a average rider on a big bike and you learn to carry crazy corner speed which you then transfer to bigger bikes and then you are really moving! I'm not knocking anyone for riding whatever they like on track as I said it's fun but to gradually build your skill a smaller capacity machine will hone your skills and teach track craft in a better way in my opinion.

Haha too good to miss! It's stunning. Like I said mate everyone has a different reason for going out on track and I would never say a modern mental machine isn't the right machine just that track craft is easier to learn on a smaller capacity bike. Hope we can meet up again next season.

The bikes way above what I need for my speed at the moment but I’m a complete tart when it comes to bling ( I doubt you’ve noticed 😁), I intend doing a load more days next year and I’ve ordered a wind out awning for the van and I’m looking at getting it insulated and carpeted out so I can sleep in it, it’s a really long day driving to cadwell and back in a day, I’d love to do brands hatch and Anglesey as well.

is it even worth changing them?
MSS told me not to touch the headers on my V4 and i know there ment to be the best in the business but you still have to wonder.
that is realy realy strong R1s always seem to come up week on the dyno, its one of the reasons the silverstone marshals dumped them blokes where turrning up and was clapping them on the straights
how you getting on with the size of the R1 i remember when i got my V4 you said it was too small i think the R1 is smaller its defiantly a smaller seat and narrower.

The standard headers are staying, you only gain a small amount and I’ll not notice it especially when you’re talking a couple of thousand for them, size wise it seems fine and all the tracks I’ve ridden so far aren’t really that high a top speed tracks, well not for me at the moment.

i warm up with a lower mapping, my ducati feels like it has less power than a 400 in raid mode.

i rented a 2018 at silverstone and it did feel right definetly smaller than a rsv4 bigger than a 11 1299
yeah i think headers was a thing you changed in 1998 i wouldent swap headers on anything i own at the moment bike wise, car wise everything i own.
