hi all, Out for a ride yesterday and when I got back home and was just pushing my tuono into the garage I pressed the front brake and heard a slight knock from the front discs. Checked both discs and there seems to be a lot more movement both side ways and length ways, roughly about 2/3 mm each way. I don’t remember that much movement on them. How much play is normal ? Cheers fellas.

| It’s a 2008 gen 2 with original discs which I thought were floating discs as there has always been some slight movement on them |

| If they’re standard they should have the spring washer on the back, they shouldn’t really move unless you really push on them quite hard, if you’re moving them a few mm they sound worn to me. |

I would suspect they are Sunstar discs and they always had a fair amount of play even when new. Think they were classed as semi floating, but may well be wrong there. If it bothers you swap them out. I’ve a set that f custom ISR’s fully floating that have a lot of movement and my V4’s Brembo’s always had a couple of mm movement also. I would suggest that side to side movement would be expected,amount depending on the force used and dependent on the state of the spring washers. Thanks for the replies fellas, They are sunstar discs, tried to put a short video up but couldn’t sus it out. The amount of movement on them both (one side more than the other) in all directions is too much for my liking, I really don’t remember that much play in them and certainly never heard a clunk sound when applying the brakes before so will probably get some new ones sorted. One side has more movement than the other so somethings not right, surely they’d be the same ? |

They definitely move 2/3mm eccentrically ☹️ Need to look for a new pair me thinks.

You could have one caliper that’s not as free as the other and needs more pressure. |

Will take the callipers off tomorrow and have a look at the pistons, just to check everything’s working fine. Haven’t noticed any loss of pressure in the brakes or sponginess either but will check.

Yep, most weekends she gets out for an hour or two, never had any problems with the front brakes until yesterday. I think maybe it’s just old age stiffening things up and needing attention, a lot like me  |

| Possibly a strip and good clean with red rubber grease around the pistons would do it good. |

Well I’ve just had both front brakes off and everything is spot on. All pistons move smoothly and press the disc evenly at the same time, pads are good and no sign of leakage from around the seals. Now the discs are out of the brakes the movement is so bad there almost falling apart when pressed, easily 5/6 mm in all directions ! New ones ordered so hopefully have them for the weekend now summers arrived for the week. I don’t think it’s the brakes pulling at different strengths that have done this, maybe just old age has got to them. I think I’ll give all the brakes and master cylinders new seals and a proper clean over the winter, even tho they look ok there’re 15 years old so changing everything seems like a good idea.

New discs turned up first thing this morning and now fitted, everything working well, happy ! The old discs have some much more play in them it’s frightening ! Once off the wheel and out of the brakes the play is much worse, worth checking yours if you have any doubt about the amount of play on the wheel, take them off and check ! Any how off out this weekend for the last of our Great British summer
