Hi all, I've got a 2007 RSV R with about 10k miles on it which I've had since new and has been well looked after. Starts and runs perfectly, but I noticed something about 3 or 4 years ago and couldn't remember if it has always been that way (I had a gap of about 18 months riding when life got in the way). I noticed that when I switch the ignition off the tacho needle flutters for a couple of seconds before stopping. I'm sure I don't remember this happening, but maybe I've just forgotten. There's also a slightly louder fluttering sound coming from under the tank but assuming that to be the idle stepper motor resetting - I can't remember if it always fluttered like that though. As I said, it starts immediately from cold or hot, idles fine, revs freely and seems to have the power I remember. So is this unusual, or is it that "they all do that, Sir"?

Here's a video of the fluttering needle which more noticeable in real life but I think you can make it out - you'll need to crank the volume up a bit. Thanks in advance for any info.

Not seen that before but I have a hunch your Speedo needle has moved slightly as it’s resting point before you turn off the ignition is not against the stop which from my memory it should be. If it were against the stop already it would prevent the needle flutter at power off.

So in conclusion my thinking is that the flutter is a symptom of the needle not being against the stop as the dash coil powers down rather than a fault itself.

I’ve had that on two or three of my Gen2’s. Just put it down to being a quirk

Ah that's good to know it's a general quirk and not just mine then! Thanks for your all quick replies, much appreciated.

Does setting the shift light make any difference? I've not had this on any of my gen2s.

Hi Adam
No I’d think not.

Some do, some don’t. Won’t have any effect on anything I’d worry about. Speaking of quirks,  I always enjoyed the different level of ‘chirp’ you’d get from the fuel pump depending on which bike and how long it stood for. Sometimes fast, sometimes lazy and sometimes not at all. Character of the individual bikes to me.

Hey James just a thought. Second the individual quirks think we've both had enough to spot the subtle differences between bikes
