Hey

I have seen some different  sources on how to change the engine oil on a RSV Mille (gen 1, 1998), and I can't figure out how much oil to put in. My Haynes manual says 3,9liters when doiing an oil change with changing the oilfilter.

So, I put in 3 liters, started the engine and let it run warm, turned it off and waited a minute. Then put 1 more liter of oil in, and the level in the inducator is still under the minimum. At this point I have put in 4 liters of oil and de level is still to low.

What do I do? Put some more oil in until the level is halfway min and max? If I put more oil in, isn't their a risk of spilling oil in the airbox? (Which I have done in the past Ouch )

Thank you for advice Smile

The bike needs to be run up to normal operating temperature.
Manual I think suggest something like a 20k ride?

Many let it tick over for at least two cycles of the cooling fan cut in and then switch bike off. Immediately have the bike upright and look at the level then.
I would very much suggest there is enough there. Measured amount everytime will see you straight. If anything the clear tube, whilst I thought at the time it was a faff, I much prefer it to the V4 dipstick.

I agree - you need to go and ride it to get it properly up to temp. Don't add any more oil until you do, otherwise you may regret it!

I did the same thing servicing my bike over winter, put the stated amount of oil in and ran the bike for a couple of fan cycles and it was still low. My mate suggested i go for a ride of about 20 mins, came back and the oil was perfect. Give the bike a run and then see.

Thanks all. I'll take it for a ride and check.
