I’ve got a Garmin but only because it integrates with my bmw controls. If it weren’t for that I would use my phone. Google maps is fine and often is more accurate.

I purchased the Garmin Zumo XT. It came with free worldwide updates for life as a bonus.

It does everything very well and can works in conjunction with your phone for calls, messages and music. Great for planning really good routes and the various bike magazines give you the rides they carry out as readily downloadable maps which I love.

There are numerous reviews on you tube about it’s full capability should you choose to use it. I just got a separate additions mount so I can swap it between bikes when I choose. Can plan rides with direct routes or twisty’s, and even a mix.

It’s really good for all I need.

Whats the tom-tom rider 500 like

That was the other option I’d looked at but went with the reviews that gave the Garmin the edge over the TomTom but I seem to recall they were pretty evenly matched in use and it all came down to some marginal control of functions and screen brightness etc. Also, I had a load of points stored at Helmet city and paid £189 for mine. I think the retail was £370 at the time on an offer.

Look at what deal you can get pretty much

Just another thought.

If you have a blue light card for some kind of emergency service or MOD, Garmin give 30% off products direct.

Good stuff.

I just realised the TomTom 550 is the l marketed against the Zumo XT.
Check the differences between the 500 and 550.

Tom Tom 500 here. Links to my Interphone headset ok, the route planning software is ok to use so no problems. It took me ages to get it to link to the my drive software but now it is it's simple.

LOL yes been on the magical mystery tour following your Garmin a few times, never did find Ripol !

Been using Co pilot on my iPhone for years and has been as good as any stand alone Stat Nav.

I use a BMW Nav5 which is great.  You don't get full remote functionality if not using the BMW CanBus system but I will use it on a generic satnav/phone holder with a dedicated usb power supply from the battery.  Had it a couple of years and its never let me down and has functions such as allowing interesting b road curvy routes to add some interest A to B as well as the usual Way point functions.
