The Alice Aprilia team mechanics knew they were in for a long night as they caught this glimpse of Colin Edwards factory machine turn itself into a bonfire during Fridays practice last weekend for the Grand Prix of Germany.

Both Edwards and team-mate Nori Haga were trying out new chassis at the Sachsenring. Haga hit the dirt while Edwards´ deviation from the track and subsequent blaze was caused by a leaky fuel tank.

Thankfully the reigning World Superbike Champion was not hurt and only suffered some light burns on the right arm and thigh. Here is what the Texan had to say about the incident and another chance to see the remarkable moment.

´Today I discovered that a barbecue is a terrible thing if you are on the wrong side! At the beginning of the session when I was riding with the new chassis on I saw some drops in the visor: I immediately thought it was rain and then after some time perhaps the water coolant from a bike in front of me. But I felt something cold on my neck and after a few seconds a lot of heat.
My first reaction was ´FIRE´! I was completely wrapped by the flames and I decided to jump off quickly. I felt pretty shaken up and I hope I never have another experience like it
