Gorgeous looking bike, was really looking forward to seeing this at Fugly's b.b.q when you said you might have been attending, a shame you couldn't make it. Certainly looks like a labour of love, and a deep pocket, to achieve that look and the high attention to detail. Congrats on a very nice looking and well sorted steed. Rick, so is having that carbon fibre seat tucked away your equivalent to a porn stash.

Out of interest, did you add the motor change as a mod on your insurance and did it make any difference to the price of the policy?

I want to know as well. My insurance company I think has policy of no engine mods resulting in more than 10% gain.

How do they quantify a percentage gain?

How would they know? I can understand with the usual add ons but what insurance company is going to take an engine apart.

Service rebore Sir That's a B/B covered
Race can? All companies expect a race can on these bikes by now and they'll express surprise if you tell them you're running an original
Power Commander? Just a means of adjusting the emissions Sir
These bikes are a very long way from being cutting edge,in fact getting on for qualifying as Classics and cheap insurance

Yes, I very much doubt any assessor would take an engine apart, but the engine will have a different serial number to that on the V5; surely one thing that might be checked.
It's a fact that some insurance companies will go to lengths to avoid a payout.

That's a very good point Steve, I suppose you can only really get away with it if its your own motor. Years ago when I was 16 my dad and I bought an MBX80 and told the DVLA that we had put the 50cc engine from a friend's written off MBX50 into my 80 frame. When the V5 came back it they hadn't changed the engine number to the 50cc lump so I had a fully legal nutter bike at 16. Got caught speeding on it and had to go to court but never got found out, so we big bored it to 93cc

So you change an engine, used to happen all the time, you just notify a number change,no penalty,no problem, just a paperwork like for like swap

I think how far insurers go is largely down to the claim, eg if someone is killed or seriously injured then I would think they'd look for anything to limit their liability, on the overhand a minor bump they don't seem to bothered, when ran over my mates gixer last year they didn't even check it was mot'd which it wasn't !!!
