Due to a lack of funds I put a bid in for a Ohlins shock, never drink and bid muckers. Anyway I got it for £108, however it's from an earlier model. Some have said it can be fitted with no mods but it will lose some travel, others reckon it needs the earlier dog bones and plates. Question is how much will it affect handling if just fitted. Not opposed to picking up the dog bones if I have to. Any input would be appreciated. Thank in advance

Just change the spring rather than linkages etc

See below

01-03 shocks.
. Both the Ohlins and Sachs shocks use a significantly lighter spring rate than the 1998-2000 versions due to very different linkage ratios..

Lots of info Here regarding shocks

Finally got the shock at home, it seems in good condition apart from the top and bottom bushes. The spring is faded but the first 4 digits are 1091. Not sure if this is a later spring or not. Any help would be great.

Dropped the shock off today, the guy who is going to service it reckons it is very good condition. New seals and the valve reworked to my weight and it should be excellent. Gave him the Sachs shock for the spring. The unit was leaking. No wonder the rear was a tad harsh

My original spring on my 2000 Ohlins was a 140 the later were about 95 , me and griff looked at them once and there was about 5 different spring ratings used over the years.
