| I'm going to change my sprockets and chain on my gen 1 in the next few weeks, not sure whether to go for 15/44 or 16/44. Will be mainly road riding I recon, any advice or suggestions would be appreciated thanks. Merry Christmas :)o |

| For me 16/44 is spot on , totally transformed my bike and how it feels , i wouldnt go any lower myself but def one off the best mods , cant believe the mine still had the original chain & sprock on when i got it , i wouldve junked them straight away . |

I bought my RSV about a month ago and I would certainly agree that the standard 17 / 42 final drive does make the gearing longer than most bikes, Japanese at least. Personally I don't have a problem with it, it just means I use 1st gear a lot more than on any other bike I have had. Just takes a bit of getting used to. Good job my bike has a sweet gear box otherwise it could be an issue. If you do go down the 16 / 44 or 17 / 44 route, do some research on chain length. The standard 108 links may not be sufficient.

16/44 here with a 110 link chain iirc some people have had problems with the 16/44 108 link combo with the chain being a bit short. 110 makes the wheelbase slightly longer (by a few mm) but gives you room for play. As time goes by and the chain/sprockets wear you can always take a link out. |

15/44 is totally usable. I've only ever used it on track but I wouldn't change it for the road. It'll only wheelie lots if you let it, keep your weight over the front and it's fine. | What kind of difference does downgearing make to fuel consumption? I know I shouldn't really be bothered but the ape is by far the worst bike I've ever had on juice don't really want to make it worse but I'm replacing my chain and sprockets soon and have been thinking of dropping a tooth or two. |

| While i have the bike apart for cleaning i am going to put a 15t on the front of the Tuono and leave the rear at 42 and see what that feels like. |

I did it on my Zx7r and it made a huge difference to the pick up, lost a little top end but I like my license so not bothered by that really but it was so long ago and fuel was a lot cheaper I can't remember what difference it made to tank range plus as it was a il4 and revved higher |

| I went to 16/44 on the Tuoldo and it improved the bike so much especially in town, I can now sit at 30 without going up and down the gearbox. Fuel consumption staid about the same. |
