Oh yeah that's a good call thanks. Was thinking about maybe just matching the initial design which is vaguely (but not) like the old SBK number board. But especially with the early tail I'm going for a more RS 250 look I think, which an oval number board would look good on. I'll do number boards on the tail too to match, though I'll leave them blank for now.

I use these guys for pre-cut sizes where I don’t need to be creative

If you get ACU approved sizes now then if you wish to crack on with racing you just need to lock-wire it up.

Interested to know when you do that and happily chip in a hand where I can too if needed

Actually just on that site now ha. Do you know if you can get 3 front numbers ok onto a 285mm x 235mm oval? And 3 side numbers onto 260mm x 220mm oval?  https://www.race-number.co.uk/oval-285mm-x-235mm-sticker-background---acu-spec-16012-p.asp

Going by ACU spec because I don't want to mess about changing it later on. Though I do see some clubs can be a bit relaxed about it as there's loads of race bikes that don't meet ACU handbook.

Put me on the spot with maths there

I’m gonna say yes it will but In my experience I was only ever pulled up once in Racing by no limits for a small background.Never in other clubs and some are really slack on it. Wrong sizes, spacing, colours and even font regularly seem to go unnoticed.

I always stick with correct font and size for numbers and unless you have three of the same number digits like 1 or 7 can help you be flexible with spacing if need be.

My numbers on both race bikes are too close and the back board is correct either as body work masks it.

Choose a club and go feel out what and how they run things. My only criticism is to a certain club I won’t name. They over do everything to the point it’s draining. They do it throughly don’t get me wrong but it is a track day company that also runs races. Other clubs know you hold a race ACU and treat you with the respect you know what you’re doing. I’ve spent hours in briefings and scrutineering with the above criticised club and minutes with other clubs as it’s done quickly and efficiently.

I'm not currently an ACU license holder although I used to be many years ago,but I do recall when a mate sat his licence with the Wirral 100 and then went on track afterwards they were having a crackdown on plates as too many people were taking the piss with sticky tape and odd spacings

This was a couple of years back though,I actually sat in and did the written paper and passed the exam but couldn't be bothered to pay the fees as I had no intention of racing again.

My mate only did it to get cheap access to license holder track outings and even he let it lapse after a season

Not sure about cheap outings for license holders these days Ian. Sort of feels like most track time gets allocated to track day organisers. Certainly test days don't look to be as good value as a regular track day for time on track.

I'm guessing the ACU regs are just there to fall back on if a number looks a bit dodgy. Can't imagine they get a ruler out for every bike in scrutineering. Hoping if I go ACU size for number board and end up with a 3 digit number it'll at least look a lot easier to read than many I've seen. All else fails paint the nose and tail white ha.

Scary Confused

Perhaps that's why he never got around to doing them and let his license lapse.

That and his SuperMono nearly broke the decibel meter at 112+ Db  and wouldn't be aloud ( see what I there? Wink)   on most tracks by thenLOL

That is Donington park though, which is typically more expensive. Particularly loud days. But I don't think you get half as much time on a test day as you do on a track day.

Hell of a noise that, makes you wonder how good the exhaust system was. Think the little pit bikes that ride around my estate can't be far off that and they will probably only be about 140cc.

If you do race though, make sure the everything does meet spec.

Pre-race scrutineering is all about safety and of course they don't have time to check everything. They do though often pick a particular issue to focus on at a meeting and numbers/boards may just be chosen at some time, maybe at the request of lap scorers/timekeepers or even commentators. It's at post race that you really might get pulled up, particularly if you have a good result. Another competitor may even raise the issue to get you bumped down the results.

Don't think I need worry about another competitor trying to bump me down the results LOL

I imagine the number boards are also for the marshalls in case they need to black flag you or something. But yeah, I'd rather everything met or exceeded spec so there's nothing to worry about. Much like I prefer to keep my bike above MOT minimum standards.

It was a championship winning bike from back when they were a serious class, didn't actually sound that loud though when next to it though. Rotax single with twin pipes and cans.

I'd love to race supermono. Similar to MZs and past masters but without the engine maintenance. They almost looked to make a comeback recently with motocross 450 engines in them. But then faded away. There were the Aprilia supermotos converted into race bikes too that ran in Thundersport. RRV or RXV or something. Anything like that looks like a GP bike to me.

I forget what this thing was but it cost a fortune to create  back in the day and the guy that built the engine was some legend of Rotax tuning ,now long dead unfortunately.

It was nearly impossible to ride, the engine had to be held at nearly maximum revs or else it was off cam,my mate fitted another engine with smaller carbs as he couldn't ride at that level.

Sounds like my dad's 'race tuned' RD350 that would 4 stroke up to a certain point, then suddenly wheelie. Makes you really appreciate the flat torque curve of the Rotax V60 doesn't it.

Done the nose, side panels, tail and airducts now. Just did the duct outers fire now to see how I feel about keeping some red to break up all the black. Now also thinking about masking off that recessed square area on top of the tank to leave that gloss red. Paint seemed to adhere perfectly fine too the plastic air ducts so it's promising for the tank. Looks different to the side panels but I'm sure that can be explained with science. Surface refraction or something..

Making very slow but steady progress. Perils of having a 17 month old. Gave the tank a general rub down to rough up the glossy lacquer.

The butt plug in the steering stem is a new attempt to get a decent location for a camera. Sick of all footage either being of my arse (from the tail) or being constant vibrating kettle on the boil (from the nose). Hoping a good solid ram mount behind the screen should get a good forward view, minimise vibration vs wobbly mount on nose fairing and reduce wind noise.

Full can of primer later, it looks ready to paint to me. Also stuck a number board on the tail and realised it's a lot more fiddly than it looks. Going in with hairdryer on fairing and vinyl before starting next time.

Got the tank painted finally. Tested the surface a bit with my fingernail underneath the tank where it can't be seen. Went fairly hard and didn't leave a mark so my worries of it just flaking off in chunks were unfounded. May still rub off with wear but feels as tough as factory right now.

Put the vinyl on the side and sticker on top to cover the lumps where the stock lacquered over stickers were. Probably get small box Aprilia stickers to go on the sides to replace the old ones.

Just belly pan and wheels to go now.

I've still got a load of coloured vinyl to add something to it. Don't want to go over the top, still keep in mainly black, but just want some kind of detail to break it up. Going red, white and green but also want to avoid just doing Italian flags as I've got no real allegiance to italy. Just matches my leathers colours ha. So I'll keep my eye out for some simple designs I could do. Aiming for mostly red, some white and just a little green.

Thanks James. Yeah might give that a go, though thinking of taking off the stickers as they're a bit scuffed from running the AP sets upside down.

Ah right didn't know that Ian. Aye you saying they're the genuine article in that they're OK, or that they're genuinely dodgy? Guess should always be suspect of free services, though I don't know how you can get a trojan from just an image. Do you know of any good ones Ian?

The whole thing seems a bit shrouded in mystery, from what I can gather there was U dot cube...I dot cube and just plain cubeupload  Confused

I know that I've been running Malwarebytes Premium for months now and I constantly have windows popping up saying it's blocked U.cube from running on my Pc which just leaves empty frames where there should be pics.

This is only happening on RSVR.net though so it seems there must be something on here the scanner doesn't like.

It's on an outward port though and it pops up everytime I post so it must be trying to stop something on this website propagating outwards again

There may have been spurious ads or trojans maybe piggybacked onto some pics somewhere on that site which causes the scanner to list them?

MalwareBytes themselves will tell you they block the U.cubeupload site but not actually why.

As to where else to host pics I'm not sure,I don't bother,I just upload directly from phone or Pc since Photobucket got greedy and started charging

This is historic and probably out of date but may be useful   https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/207469-ucubeuploadcom/

It's annoying though as a couple of different virus scanners and also a full Malwarebytes Premium scan all return my Pc as clean but everytime I go on this website it throws up a warning on an outward bound port so there's something it doesn't like on here Confused

U dot and I dot are just subdomains of cube, which itself is trusted. Sometimes antivirus are more trouble than they're worth. Never in 30 years had a virus but had grief from antivirus software frequently. I'm a software engineer too so I'm exposed to computers enough.

I'd say yes Ian. Or leave it as is and maybe override to show images from people you trust. Assuming you can click to show. Looks like an old issue where at sone point users had tricked it to host malware files rather than images. Guessing they weren't validating well enough at the time. The u dot subdomain is where user images are, so if someone managed to get something dodgy in they could blacklist it. I don't know for sure if they've fixed their validation or just removed any dodgy files they found.

I might look for an alternative anyway because it's the second time someone's brought it up now. No point in an image hosting site if you can't share with people because it's blocked. Shame that the money I pay for storage with Microsoft doesn't let me share pictures on the web

Weird it's still blocking 3 years later Confused

I've tried allowing it through but it's still blocking. Weirdly I run the same MalwareBytes  Premium on my Android phone and that shows images ok?   Microsoft and it's inherent issues I guess?

I have my pics backed up on One Drive and Google pics, both free but just link direct from local drives on here, have you got a massive amount of images stored then?
