Hi Kev, Castle Combe was pretty good: Good weather & lots of folk there. I did the allcomers race which was a bit mental. Didn't do that well in the S.O.T. but had a good time anyway. Andy came 3rd so did a lap of honour in the car. (Also came 3rd at Mallory the tinker). Not sure about Cadwell as I'm doing the Thundersport weekend at Anglesey on 12th/13th Sept. Hope to catch you at a trackday sometime to get some top tips!

Hi Andy, not planning on going to Pembrey. The Anglesey weekend and possibly a quick blatt to the Nurburgring on 19th/20th will cost a bob or two, so Pembrey's out. Would like to do Cadwell, but will see about that a bit later on. You should stand a good chance of a few podiums at Pembrey I would have thought?

Me and Dan had a right ding dong there last year my bike split its crankcases on the friday and Dan had somebody bring his old 999 down for me to borrow! Had some cracking races on the Saturday but the 999 broke down Sunday oil light came on so i pulled off in both races turned out to be a faulty oil pressure switch Angry Have a good one hope the weathers kind!

Hi Folks, 'Had a top time doing the Thundersport GB round at Anglesey over the weekend. They put twins in with the big boys on R1s etc, so was quite a full & zippy grid. I was loitering at the tail end, which is no great suprise! Great weather though. And what amazing scenery! Can't imagine better views from any other track in the world. Worth the long trek up there for sure.

Progress has been hampered by Meredith wanting a new washing machine and matching tumbler £1200!!Cry
Its all stripped down to the bare essentials just need to dyno it to see what its like stock then start modifying it. The flapper valve and all the other pipe work can be removed just a resistor in place of the solenoid. Apparently it makes no difference removing it on a stock bike but i'm hopping to go the 1060 route for some more power so it might help there. Also i'm unsure what exhaust to fit, I'm tempted to get the Smaltmoto front pipe and some cans from Jason, the other option is the evo 6 pipe from AF1 in the US
thats 2299 dollars!!!!!! plus import duty, i can probably bring it back in four seperate trips and be under the customs limitSmile. The Smaltmoto pipe is 1300 dollars or 1099 euros ? and the cans are £300 from Jason Rix. Oh and a PCIII and quick shifter . Should be a really nice bike for me to crash when i'm finished!!!

That last round at Cadwell was great i got my best finish in the last race 2ndBig smile and i was in the lead for 4 laps , Dan won. I crashed in race one on Sat which blew my chances of 3rd in the championship mind you i was happy with 4th.

looking forward to a track day next year to try it out

cheers Andy

Although not racing (at the moment) i still want to develope the engine in mine. If you're looking at big bore 1060 like mine check out the other sizes, i choose 1060 cos i didn't want to have to make head gaskets which you have to do with the 1103. I have also spoken to a guy who has an 1148!
My 136bhp 1060 motor is all stock (engine wise) at the minute and has proved reliable all year, so i'm looking at heads and cams next my target has always been 145bhp........ we'll see Confused

Yes it is tempting to go for the 1103 kit, the cost is the same and more power but i don't think it will be as reliable . The 1060 pistons are the same weight as stock and only 3mm oversize, the 1103 pistons are 5mm oversize and i think the're heavier too. So when you bore the barrel its very thin and also the piston skirt will touch the opposing cylinder at the bottom of its stroke. If you notice on the 1103 kits the barrels have a cut out to allow clearance from the other piston. this is why i don't think it will be as reliable.

I'm the same as you Kev i want to get about 145 horse from it, hopefully the pipe and big bore kit should do it. The newer bike has the bigger valve heads and it revs more  and it has 57,s so i think 145 is not unreasonable. Thats 145 on the same dyno as my old bike which was 125bhp so basically 20 more ponies!

Aprilia reckon the new bike is 143 compare to the old models 128 anyway!Big smile

I know what you're saying about the 1103 thats why i went 1060 but to give you an idea my old standard mille was 124bhp, my 1060 was only 128bhp until i swapped the 51's to 57's then i got 136bhp i'm running 03 heads which have the bigger inlet valves but only 31mm exhausts, with the extra capacity i think its all down to the breathing now thats why i'm leaning towards the gas flowing and cams route. Ultimately i'm not tuning for top end power i'm looking for mid range which so far i've made great improvements, up to 82lbs/ft same as dan's old 999 which was 4 years newer and has made a difference to my lap times. Keep me posted on how you're getting on.
