Just walked for 30mins (fast walk) to pick my car up from service in the cold.
Yada yada yada, its fine, changed the brake fluid. No problems Good stuff. As I walked back to it I thought, them wheels look a bit shiny, have they cleaned it. I looked at the rest of the car and thought, nah there's water marks all over it must be the early morning dew. Got in and a damp rag was laying across the centre console. I took it back to the service desk and the bloke said "oh, nice one. They'll be looking for that. At least it shows they cleaned the car". Yes cos there's no other way to tell. It actually looks sh*tter now, with all the smears and water marks than when it f**kin went in you stupid twats. Oh, apart from the shiny tyres of course- hate that shiny tyre stuff as it makes the rubber dry out so double well done. Won't be taking my car back there then. Think they must have had school kids in there doing the 'cleaning'. Bloody Ford dealers.

Has relatives staying a few days back. The uncle complained of a knocking noise developing in the 150 miles he's done since the main dealer serviced his car (Mazda Northampton). Takes it back to the main dealer (who'd just put new tyres on that front for him) and they have it up on the ramps (so they said) and say that the noise is the suspension bushes de laminating.
Arrived with us and said it was getting really loud so we whipped the car round to the local garage. A lot of head-scratching and a test drive later and they said "its your brake pads...they're worn unevenly and that's causing the knocking ". I arrived on the scene an hour later, took the car for a short spin and then home, had it up on the jacks and removed the front wheels. That was made doubly easy since the feckin wheel nuts were loose! I mean, not even hand tight but back at least half a thread. Brake disc had come loose on the nearside wheel...I think the source of the knocking had been found (ahem). Looked at the front control rod bushes and they were perfect (if anyone from Northampton Mazda is reading this, don't worry, a solicitors letter may well be on its way to you feckers pretty soon). Thats what I call criminal gross professional negligence. Edited by Vee60 - 22 Sep 2012 at 15:29 |

Again sounds like the pee nai that fitted my car tyres
Prob on the phone texting his Chav mate while smoking a roll up and trying to replace the wheel That's quite a serious mistake Hence why I do all ally own work on my bike I am sad I even mark the wheel nuts to remind myself I have torqued them Anything like engine work or major service it will go to griff Most worrying thing I am hearing is that the biggest offenders are main dealers bike and cars They have total f**king plebs working for them The smaller places seem to have a lot more pride and make sure everything is done right |

A trip to a local well known Nissan main dealer for a full service saw them return the car to us next day , the following day the engine seized , it had no oil in it. One court case later and we had a new car, never going to a main dealer ever again.

I put it down to 2 things :
A: They arnt mechanics anymore, they are technicians straight out of computer mechanics school and havent "served" a proper apprentiship, unless you can plug it in to fix it they are dumbfounded !!!! B: Every job they do these days has a time limit written on the job sheet,Ive witnesed this with Nissan/Fords and Vauxhall (3 mates work for the 3) and the time scales are VERY VERY tight with a service manager all over your arse if you go over, now before anyone kicks off I do appreciate this is no excuse but its from the horses mouth

I had a vauxhall dealer try to charge me for screen wash, Is that all I hear you ask..
I challenged the service manager and asked how he had managed to fill the screen wash bottle. he said it was easy, I told him it would be very difficult as I had brimmed it before bringing it for service so you wouldn't charge me a silly price for it.
I called trading standards infront of him to report them, it was amasing what they tried to offer me if i wouldn't continue with the call, the ripp off w"%^&kers.

I am going to reply to this without going off on one
I have worked in the car trade all my working career not at the same place I am now at a main dealer 10 years service . 99.9% of are not c#¥ts we are one of the minority of trade that is constantly training as technology advances , we don't rely on our laptops but all the new stuff is dependent on computers , it's like asking an IT bloke to fix your network fault with a pen and paper , I would love to go back to plugs points and condensers but it ain't going to happen . Some customers don't help they book there cars in get them to the garage late then say they need them back ins couple of hours this causes rush jobs . As already said we have times for everyjob every minute of our day is monitored , if we drop below a certain percentage you get a talking to do it too often and it's bye-bye .sometimes mistakes happen they shouldn't but as in anything they do it's how you deal with them that counts Now I will agree there are alot of cowboys out there doesn't matter main dealer or independent but only the same as any other trade but don't tar us all with the same brush that's like putting griff in with the sh*t bike garages Lastly if you don't want screen wash in your car due to price then just tell them at the desk and make sure they put it on the job sheet then if they put it in you get it free |

But letting a customer drive off with wheel nuts hanging off ffs is inexcusable IMO
Yes people can't get everything right all the time But that's a simple check it's not rocket science |

Absolutely right. My experience with main dealers hasn't been good. Volvo, BMW and ford main dealers in my area are all money grabbing gits and I've always had to take vehicles back every time I've used them for shoddy work or to question bills. Can't tar them all as that's generalisation but if the cap fits then wear it. There may well e good main dealers out there but I've sadly yet to experience one. Forgetting to torque up one wheel nut is understandable, especially if rushed. Forgetting (not bothering) to do all of them on one wheel up is inexcusable. Not doing them all up on both front wheels is bloody CRIMINAL and the owner of the car will be pursuing a negligence claim. To then rub salt into the wounds by claiming that the (perfectly GOOD) suspension bushes are to blame and need replacing at £300 a side is just barking mad and daylight robbery too. Its indefensible, inexcusable and bloody downright criminal every which way you look at it.

For starters there. Are fitters and technicians and yes there is a difference
No excuses for leaving 2 wheels loose . For arguments sake and this isn't an excuse for bad work but I know what I get an hour and what my work charges an hour it isn't even 10% I also know what our salesmen roughly get and it's double a year . If I make mistakes I can and I know of mechanics who have get done for manslaughter, this is a worst case scenario but I don't think my pay reflects this ,as a comparison a mate has gone over to austrailia as a main dealer mech alot less work load but over twice as much uk and three times aus dollars |

Er there are bad main dealer experiences I know.
But as stated F up your on your own. Personally if a job takes longer than it should its just hard luck . I don't rush for no one. You could be jumping up and down in reception . Given the rate of pay the knowledge we have to hold.hard fn luck . Anyone rushing can make a mistake . No excuse for bad work true. ps If a wash resivor is full just easy run the washer till its got room. Banks .Government F up bigger and get bonus for doing it. |

I think it largely depends on who you get on the day.
My local Ducati dealer has always been great, but the last service manager i dealt with was a total knobber and put me right off. i'm anal about my bike and had completely stripped it early this year. When i took it for the mot the tester noticed i left 2 subframe mounting nuts only finger tight. It happens, we get distracted etc. Also don't rule out kids. I went fishing once and when i went to drive home the car rattled like a bag of spanners. I drove 10 miles not knowing what was the cause until i found some fecker had taken off 2 wheel nuts and left then inside the trim and left 2 on by 1/2 a turn. Because it was on the rear it didn't affect the handling really. |

Ive had 4 Nissan Navara's,great trucks and pretty bullet proof BUT if something does happen to them try and find a "nice" dealer,my first was a D22 Outlaw which started rattling big time on first start up till the oil pressure came up,I did a bit of a Google on it and just happened to fall on a Navara forum, seems they had a recall for a dodgy cam chain tensioner,I phoned my local Nissan dealer (Widnes car centre, now defunct) which my company does work for !!! (diff bearing changes/flywheel skims etc) and they wanted to charge me £220 to repair even when I told them it was a recall !!!!,they waffled on about them "not being a main dealer",I then phoned Liverpool Nissan and got a lovely girl on reception who asked for my chassis number and confirmed it was a FREE recall and mine hadnt been done and when would I like to bring it in !!!!!,the second Nissan "dodge" I encounted was for some rust bubbles !!!!! that had appeared on the leading edge of the roof above the windscreen, again "we will have to check with head office etc etc etc",they then said they where stone chips !!!!,I argued that stone chips start on top of the paint and leave a definate mark not from underneath, after doing another google it seems they had a recall for a leaking sunroof seal, armed with this I went back but was told Head office had given the nod for a warranty paint repair,on my 4th one now so far so good, like I said great trucks with great running gear but dealer back up lets it down
