Hey Just got my Falco a 11,200 mile 2001 model last Saturday. Really great bike and a bit quicker than my bandit.

When the engine has been started and run once the choke can be fully closed there is a slight rattle from the engine. Nothing major but when I pull the clutch in this seems to remove the noise.

Could this be the clutch wearing or a damaged basket? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

They always have some clutch chatter and it's normal.

If it becomes excessive it's time to have a look but sounds like you have the normal chatter.

Ok so if it wasn't the clutch rattling do you have any thoughts on what it could be? I'm going to change the oil and  coolant this weekend as its not been done in about 2 years. Any tips about doing this that aren't in the manual. I'm going to use a filtrex filter and motoul 15w 50 oil semi synthetic.

Also any thoughts on what coolant would be good to use?

Cam chain tensioners have been known to fail but that is a more top end noise or the clutch bearing might fail causing the push rod to chatter. neither of those are common especially on lowish mileage bikes.

On the coolant when you refil open the bleed screw and pput the bike in the sidestand so the bleed hole is at it's highest. Once it's full run till above 70 ish degress so the thermostat opens and when the pressure has had time to drop a bit re open the bleed screw in case any more air has come out of the cylinder jacket.

Funny. I was at my RoSPA lecture last night and a guy on a new ( to him) Falco asked me to take a listen to his bike. He'd had JIL4's before and though his bike was noisy - could I take a listen. Sounded fine to me.  My mate the copper also had a listen and thought it was distinctly quiet compared to his 916.LOL

I guess they are noisey compared to IL4's but isnt that part of the "character"LOL

Thanks guys I hadn't thought It was too noisey until my old boy had said, he is a bloody good mechanic so I tend to listen, but he did say that 1 they are noisier than 4s and also you wouldn.t really know if it was loud or not until you hear another bike with the sam eengine running. So if I can find an owner of a v60 this summer I'm going to get a listen just for some piece of mind.
