Hi I have a 2005 rsv
I ride it for about 70 miles it's perfect Then it starts struggling to rev and will cut out If I open fuel cap and close it it runs perfectly again I am guessing this is a venting issue What do I need to do to cure this Thanks in advance

Lift your tank and see if the nipples, at the bottom. With rubber hoses on them, are clogged. Mine where, used a needle to unclogge them.

In addition. I’d recommend taking fuel pump out and cleaning the filters
In particular the tea bag style one I have had two bikes with those symptoms and cleaning the filter resolved issue

Yep, mine wouldn't budge with a needle the alloy nipple had corroded solid. I needed to use a drill to clear it

Likewise,I opened mine out to a far bigger dia to stop it happening again Just be sure to stop the bit before it goes too deep and and out the side of the pipe though

I used my 18v cordless with the bit progressively further out of the chuck If you're only unclogging just hold the correct sized drill bit in a hand chuck/tap wrench/mole grips or whatever and just twist while pushing through the nipple. I did wonder afterwards if squirting some kettle limescale remover down the pipe from the top might have helped, but in my case I improved the situation and there is no way the pipe can get blocked now

Bump.
My 2004 Gen 2 Factory is suffering the same symptoms as the op. Opening the cap relieved the situation but it was only filling back up which got me moving again. I'll have a loop at the nipples, any idea on how deep you can go before bad things happen ? |

Unscrew the nipples and remove them first before drilling. Then drill all the way through.
Make sure you soak them with penetrating oil first to help removal and ensure you don’t over tighten them when going back in. I used some copper slip just in case. |

Mine wouldn't unscrew before fear made me reconsider ![]() If you use a short jobber drill and start with a small projection out of the chuck just increase the projection progressively and you'll feel when you clear the back of the nipple. I actually opened the bore on mine up considerably to stop any possibility of the blockage recurring. I also squirt a blast of WD40 down the drain hole periodically just to check.

I cleaned them out at the bottom and fed a piece of wire down from the filler cap, it pushed some extra fine debris out.

I did a post on this awhile ago. I used to carry a small drill to drill up through the nipples every now and then. I got fed up with doing that after a few years so just replaced the nipples with new ones that I got anodised. I put chainsaw fuel filters on the end of the pipes that exit at the bottom of the bike to stop dirt blocking them up. When I put the new nipples in I put copper grease on the threads as well. Hope that helps
