Hello Gang,
After a big smash at the TT in 2010 I am in the market for a new bike.Im thinking of a 2008/9 RSVR in black as they are superb value at the moment.I test rode one back in late 2009 but never got round to buying one.I broke 2 vertabrae, sternum and badly smashed my right hand and thumb,I was after advice on comfort(I appreciate its a sports bike),ride quality, reliability etc.I test rode a S1000rr recently, what a machine ,but too expensive.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Zed.

How tall and lanky are you, mate? Its a "large" sports bike compared to the new stuff. It also depends what you want from it - it's NEVER as top-endy as a Jap or Beemer RR, but bit more grunty. I've not ridden owt jap / modern, so I can't help with that. Obviously it's a twin so is a little vibey compared to a 4. Suspension (non-ohlins) CAN be a little stiff, but obviously adjustments with springs / damping oil can be done. Reliability is good, especially for an Italian bike! Main weaknesses are all over the forums - sprag clutch, rear brake, starter and battery. Nothing difficult to overcome.  I daresay someone else will be able to help you more :)

As Lee said they are a tall bike.

They are pretty firm suspension wise but probably no worse than most bikes. They run pretty hot in heavy traffic but otherwise comfort is pretty good.

If you like a twins power delivery you will like the rsv but it's no a rev monster like the s1000r or have the top speed, not even close.

Very solid motors though

The best thing about an RSV which will always be there is .......The GRIN FACTOR.

Except when your fixing things, but even then your grinning.
All my mates have replaced their bikes, some more than a few times......but I just can't do it.   There's just something about an RSV....like iv said before, the bike has Soul.
RSVR - Not just a bike, it has a soul

Cheers Lads,Im 6 fft tall so no issue with the bike being tall, regarding twins Ive owned an SP2,1098 and a TLR so I have experience with them.I only tried the S1000 because they give you 2hr test rides which I needed to test my injuries.I need a bike for my return to the TT and Ive seen a 2008 model for £5500 which I think is incredible value.Zed

Zed - you not considered teh high(ish) profile, new class - Supertwins? Cheap cheap! :)  New class, thus much coverage, mate.
IF you defo gonna go for RSV, then DO speak a LOT to Griff at Aprilia Performance, matey, as he'll be able to help with advise / set-up / mods etc etc :)

Have to agree with Ian

The bike does have something that none of my inline 4's had

I think my GSXR was as quick if not edged it
My R1 was faster

But its not all about figures & top speed

I love mine
Wicked fun & owes me next to f**k allBig smile
