Hi guys, thought I would make the most of the sunny evening and went to start bike for first time in a month, turns over lovely, dash says wont start after approx. 5 secs. tried with choke, without choke a bit of throttle, no throttle etc. etc. just had it serviced by lewis and griff (top job by the way) then dyno'd to make sure all mods are talking to each other. ran a dream on the way back in really heavy rain. been on optimate since then. wont bloody start though. any ideas, or does it just need a cuddle?

If the dash says won't start then it's usually one of the in built safety systems preventing the bike from starting.
So check all the obvious Make sure it's in neutral Check sidestand switch is working properly Check the kill switch hasn't been knocked etc.. Hopefully it should be one of these simple things. Don't feel like an idiot if it is as we've all done it, just not all of us have admitted what it really was afterwards! |

cheers Alwaduk, I wish I could have been that idoit, Defo in neutral, new side switch assy last year but tried with stand up and down just incase, kill switch works ok, if I kill it whilst pump is priming then it kills pump, if reset ignition then pump primes again ready for action, but without the action. even disconnected power commander just incase. battery is flat now though so back on charge until tomorrow. just put fresh petrol in, although only filled up about 5 weeks ago. |

The tilt switch cuts pump power so I don't think it is that if the pump runs. Other than the safety items mentioned, 2 failed coils on the same cylinder will also give that message but unlikely unless there is a wiring issue or it's still wet from the soaking. We did have someone else that randomly had this recently though and it turned out to be a bad starter solenoid connection which seemed to confuse the ecu (maybe arcing or something). His forum name was Rainy days or something like that if you want to search it out. |

Thanks for that info on the tilt switch!
If its a Gen1, connect the diag connector and see what errors it throws up. Failed HT coils would be in there.

Well, thanks for the input guys, electrically checked all mentioned items iaw manual, all ok. Even rigged power cable to check relay operation, all ok. WD 40 used to clean connectors (not that they looked iffy). Power on and no pump priming, doh.... now I am the idiot with the kill switch in off position. Reset every thing, diag lead connected, ignition on, pump primes, all goes as expected, diag comes up on screen, tried to start and no fault found. Still wont start. |

Found it, nothing failed or dodgy. It would appear that an earth wire on the 26 way plug into the ecu had chafed through the tape and wire coating and shorting to the ecu box. Taped it up and starts perfectly again. Obviously I had moved the ecu about so could have been something internally that had an issue, only time will tell. Cheers guys. |

Glad you got it sorted. It's really annoying when you're tried everything. Happy riding
