Here is a question for you:

A mate with a Tuono recently changed the oil in his bike so when I came to do my oil and filter last night I decided to give hime a phone from the garage to check where the Sump drain bolt was. (I thought that it was the one behind the oil filter but was not 100% sure as have not changed the oil myself on this bike)

His reaction was that the Tuono has an oil tank !!
At this point I went back inside washed my hands and went looking for the instruction manual for my Mille Factory.

After draining my bikes "sump" I phoned him back to let him know that there was a fair bit of oil removed  and that he should check his oil level.

He mentioned that it was just below the max when cold and not running. At this point I suggested that he R.T.F.I  (Read the F'N Instructions)

QUESTION: how much oil does the "sump" contain. (I guessed that it was about 500ml.)
If his bike is too full of oil what will happen is there a breather pipe that it may have come pouring out of ?

Thoughts on this issue are appreciated

The oil change proceedure is:

Drain the oil tank - bolt under front leading edge of the tank

Remove engine drain bolt - the one you mention

Remove filter housing bolts and remove cap and filter.

A fair amount of oil will come out of the engine bolt hole and filter casing, ( it looks more when it spreading into a black pool on your concrete driveAngry) but these engines have no sump as such.

Hope this helps.

I did my oil yesterday with out any problems in about 40  mins.
I was also warned by my local dealer only to put 2.7L of oil in first then start the bike to let that move from the header tank prior to adding the last litre to the bike. I can only presume that this is to allow the majority of the oil to flow to the filter and other parts.
Has anyone hearet of that having to be done ??
My main questing was how will too much oil in my mates tuono effect it,  as he ran the bike over the weekend, and prior to me phoning him last night he was unaware of his goof.

Zax it's a dry sump motor.

That means almost all the oil drains back to the oil tank when there is no pressure (engine off) and leaves almost none in the engine block itself.
That's the reason the oil has to be checked hot because the cold level does not measure the level including a pressurised oil feed system.

always check it after engine has run for a good 10 mins or a ride out and whilst it's still running or very very soon after.

excess oil ends up in the air box and will need wiping out or it can run into the Tb's if there is enough

I will get Arron to check his air box for oil then.

We took out a good ammount of oil from his tuono yesterday it was almost all the way up to the filler cap on the tank.

WRT "The Sump" I know the the bike does not have a "sump" but could not think of a better phrase to relate to the bolt at the bottom of the engine. Sorry for confusion caused.
