I usually hire a trailer to take the bike to the track (£200 refundable deposit and £36 for 3 days).
Picking the trailer up the day before and dropping it off the day after. In the week before the trackday Change the Oil Check the chain (25mm free play no more no less) Check the brake pads Bleed the rear brake Check the suspension for binding and leaks (This is standard stuff you should be doing at regular intervals anyway) I remove the mirrors and fit block off plates in their place Remove the license plate and rear indicators Tape up the front indicators and headlight Tape up the speedo Tape up the rear lights Load Tools and Fuel (20 litre jerry can) in the car Load bike onto trailer and strap down (The bike and trailer then go back into the garage) If riding to the circuit top up at the closest petrol station to the circuit. On the day (This relates to Brands Hatch) I get up at 6am have a light breakfast of tea and toast and head off about 6:30am , I arrive at the circuit a little bit before 7:30am. Unload the bike into one of the garages (We usually pre-arrange a garage between us). Go to sign on and sort documentation. Back to the garage , start the bike and warm up (makes a differance for noise testing). Head off to noise testing (needs to be under 105db) bugger 107db @ 5000rpm a bit too high to pass so I quickly fit the db killer and get tested again 104.8db perfect Back to the garage , last minute checks and do tyre pressures 31psi in the back and 33 in the front. Riders briefing is usually around this time (this is compulsory) Here they explain the "rules" and what the various flags mean and any update on the track conditions. Novice riders maybe asked to stay behind for some extra briefing points. A short while after this the Novice Group will be called down to form up for their first session, this will usually involve 3 sighting laps behind an instructor (Absolutely NO passing, wheelies, stoppies or other malarky) these are track familarisation laps. Once the 3 laps are complete its back into the pits and form up ready to be released onto the circuit for your track session proper. Assuming no red flags you will be back in the pits some 20 minutes later having done your first session of the day and quite possibly the first session of your first trackday. Unfortunately you will now have to wait for the Intermediate Group and the Fast Group to go out and do their thing before you can go out again. Some 3 or 4 sessions later (thats over an hour of track time all being well) lunch will be called (where you will have between 40 - 60 minutes). Remember this is not the time to get stuck into a full English with side dishes). Now is the time to pop down to the petrol station and top up (especially if you rode to the circuit) Immediately after lunch the Novice Group will go back out again (and probably complete another 3 sessions) followed by the Inter and Fast Groups. Time will be called around 5pm (Where the evening session riders will take over) If you dont think a "full day" is something you can do then you maybe able to book and evening event which is usually 3 session's for each group. But please note that sometimes if there are not enough riders for a particular group they may merge them, this would usually be Novice/Inters and Fast or Sometimes Novice and Inters/Fast. |
