Have you got it to run yet TT?
Just laughed when i saw the size of the reed block house on the back of the cylinder.
Quite obvious that someone had performance in mind there.
Looking good.

It's is rather large at the intake isn't. With the oversize rebore it comes in at 129.4 cc if my maths are correct lol. Had to remove and refit the cylinder twice to get to what I'm hoping is the correct compression ratio. Couldn't get it spot on but it's as close as I could get. Hoping to get her fired up soon but waiting on parts and spares time lol.
If its not broken then fix it until it is

TT,have you checked the Squish band and do you know it's optimum?
Its not hard to do.You can read up on it. Had to do it on my GasGas trials bike as i used a DCLd piston and improved base gasket.

I used to be uncertain , but now i'm not sure anymore

Hmmm. Interesting. Tell me more please, If not then I will Google it. I've always gone by how much oil you can get in the cylinder at tdc and then a bit of maths gives you the compression ratio which I think is between 12 and 13 to 1. Had to change Base gasket stack twice to get the ratio I needed lol.

It's the squish that tells you the clearance between piston and head - too big and you have poor performance, too small and, well, you can guess what happens! Adjust for optimum squish (Whatever that is on the particular engine type) using the base gasket and if that gives you a poor compression, either to high or too low, then you need to machine the head and/or liner face to suit. Don't forget to consider port heights when adjusting base gaskets either. The whole thing is a bit of an iterative process where lots of measurements and calcs are useful before making any changes.

If you know the whole thing is standard (And you want to leave it so) then the squish should get you there really.

Just about digested that and never considered port height so that may or may not affect things but won't know now until she's ready to fire up. I know there is no chance of piston contacting the head so will have to go for a start to see what happens. The head/piston combo had all the work done by pjme so I'm imaging ports would have been done when it had the liner fitted and bored etc. Might give them a call when I get chance to see what info I can get from them re proper squish measurements for the kit they've worked on as I imagine they could give me some figures.

IT'S ALIVE MMMWAHAHAHAHA.

So today it was fluids time and bleed up followed be adjusting cables for dosing pump etc etc.

Took a while to fire but it lives. Needs a bit of tuning and tweaking but it's getting closer to being complete. A few more hours, parts and bank notes to go until then but it's still progression. First start as far as we know for at least 2 and a half years.

Ah, the smell of 2 stroke!! After being sat for at least 2 years and being rebuilt over the last 6? Months with us. She's finally running.
