Topic: RSVR Sachs shock for Gen 2 TuonoPosted: 22 Feb 2017 at 11:02 |

There is an RSVR Sachs shock for sale in the classifieds that I am considering for my gen 2 T. I've only had the T for 3-ish weeks and I'm already noticing it is decidedly wallowy and mushy when pushing it. Especially with the bike cranked on undulating bumpy corners if you get me. Is the RSVR Sachs an upgrade over the standard Tuono one?

A Gen2 T should have the later fully adjustable sachs so it won't be an upgrade. Have you set the bike up for your weight etc ? Previous owner could have messed with the settings.

Okay cool, I'll double check its got the Sachs shock. To be fair I haven't played with the settings yet. When I get a second-hand bike I normally put the suspension setting back to stock, and then adjust from there. Don't know why I haven't done that this time. Too busy riding it I think! Thanks for the pointers.

Are you sure they should have fully adjustable Sachs units spoonz? The workshop manual just shows a basic shock with only spring pre-load and rebound adjustment. I don't have the bike with me here but I'm fairly sure its just a basic coil-over damping unit, with no piggy back reservoir like the Sachs.

Spoonz is right as usual.....also wrong
![]() The factory might have had the fully adjustable shock but the base model R comes with a very basic unit without the half the adjustments. I almost jumped in for that shock as an upgrade for my '09 T r but decided I'd spent enough money recently ![]() |

I'm only going on the fact my gen1 has a gen2 Sachs shock on it and it's the full piggyback jobby. I haven't looked at the manuals as I assumed all gen 2's had it.
I will upgrade it to an ohlins at some point when one is at the right price |

No it's definitely a lower spec shock, with no piggy back and just preload and rebound adjust. Doing some searching all gen 2 Tuono Rs had them. I'm going to fiddle with the settings first and if I can't get it half decent I'll upgrade at a later date. The Sachs on my 2005 RSVR was very good, so that will probably be the way I go

Yep , gen 2 tuono had a basic shock.
A gen 2 rsvr shock is a good replacement, straight swap and loads better. However if you can get a gen2 factory, tuono or rsvr ohlins , not only is much better but also its puurty 😉 |

How would I go about setting it up for the Tuono? ie ride height, spring preload etc?

Thanks. So the Tuono workshop manual states the eye to eye of the shock should be 312 +/1.5mm. So forgive my ignorance, if I set the Sachs shock to 312, this should give me the correct ride height?

Sort of. Ride height is a combination of preload and shock length. Set the length correctly and see what sag you get and adjust the preload accordingly. |
