Question boys..... my Tuono is a later model and has the improved 370w stator and ive never had any problems at all, however as its going in for the 1060 soon i am going to get it properly sorted in all areas, so its having a rebuilt oil pump with the stronger relief spring,John Boys leads fitting, new linkage bearings , new surflex clutch and a few other bits but immwondering whether its worth getting a compu-fire 55402 series regulator?
Everything ive read about them seems very good and the fact they keep the stator running a lot cooler is obviously great, so any thoughts on whether this is a worthwhile upgrade or is it just a bit of a waste of time in all reality? |

The 370w stator is pretty reliable.
It's the 500w one that has the issues, and many go the compu fire route to try and fix it. It helps...but it isn't a fix. The correct fix is to swap out to a 370w stator. Everything else is just skirting around the problem. You've got the 370w...you're good to go mate, imho |

Howdy Tifa.
That's what I was hoping to hear buddy , I was happy to get a new compu-fire and a new stator if needed but from everything I've read the aftermarket stators are a good replacement if yours is fried but aren't as good as the oem (370w) ones, but just had it in my head that maybe it'd still be worth going for the compu-fire just to assist it a bit in staying cooler but if that's just overkill and unnecessary then happy days, more cash for something else ...Cheers Tifa๐๐ |

Quick point of interest (or not).....
Technically.....it's actually the rotor that's either 270w or 500w, not the stator. The stator used on both is identical. |

Tell you what, I've learned more from this forum than I did in 12 years of buggering about at school (although the buggering about may have been the problem rather than the school
)....Cheers Tifa, I love my bike knowledge being updated๐

Rather than messing with the rectifier I thought the oil spray mod looked a better bet as a belt & braces thing

Hadn't seen that Ian but just checked it out and it looks nicely done. Any reviews from people on here having fitted it and used it for a while?
By the sounds of everything I'm reading and hearing, our 370w upgraded stator/flywheel is pretty good as is so i think I'm going to leave them alone , certainly for now anyway and just leave the charging system mods to John's cables and possibly a new li-ion battery. |

On this note can anyone tell me when the rotor was changed? Mine is a 06 but the earlier shape gen2 so I'm assuming that it is the 500w?

Not sure if anyone is aware...but in some circumstances, Aprilia will provide the replacement rotor for a token payment. All you pay is a small amount and the the labour for swapping it out. (About 1 1/2 hours?) There are quite a few owners in mainland Europe that have taken advantage of this.
It has to be done through an official Aprilia dealer though. Problem is, 99.99999999% of Aprilia dealers are crap...and no nothing of the arrangement...nor are they interested in investigating it for you. |
