Just a quick one fellas, washers finally arrived today so here is a quick pic of the plates and washers fitted.

Excess grease and that sh*tty nut will be coming off Smile

I've gone with Taps suggestion and put 6 washers on as it was all in bits, I've been running just the two on the rear dog bone mount for the last year and things have been ok with very, and I mean very, light scuffing on the old washers.

Sorry it's taken me so long to post up but it's been manic at work, things should get back to normal about Friday so I'll answer the pm's that a few of you have sent. As mentioned earlier I'll probably start a new thread with regards to the plates and washers.

Why do the linkages have so much end float on them?  Is it over generous tolerances in the manufacture/design process or will taking it out with washers have an adverse effect on the linkages ability to work properly?

manufacturing tolerances i guess u can take some out with teflon washers but i would still leave some end float in.

damn me! just logged on to ask opinions on my dogbone and come across this thread. my wheels are off  getting new tyres so was in about cleaning up the hidden bits and noticed that my dogbone is sitting hard up against the linkage!

its a 2000 rsvr. teflon washers sound like a good idea but i assume its sitting like that due to an alignment issue?

Don't panic, the dogbone has a fair bit of float, so it will move. The Teflon washers will remove some of the latteral movement so that it doesn't rub against the plates. Without them all of these will do it, quite normal.

Just come across this thread...mine is an 03, with the rear wheel off this week having new rubber fitted I also noticed that the dog bone was hard up against the right hand plate ( as i looked at it ) hence I've spent a couple of hours on here tonight having a nosey.

My plan is to strip the whole rear end down and replace all the bearings etc for new, wheel bearings the lot... then get Kais to service my forks and shock, I want the rolling chassis to be as good as possible...

looks like I'll be getting teflon washers then...

Great forum this Clap

The reason I backed out before was due to the potential for someone to somehow fit the things wrongly or screw up in some way and come chasing me for compensation.

I still have all the dxf's etc you sent me from years back Spoonz, actually I come across my proposed version whilst looking for something else yesterday night.

Seeing as these bikes are obsolete now would it be worth the effort making a small batch run,I would probably think about 30 sets would be an economical target.

Thoughts gentlemen?

I'd have a set Ian, count me in. Not a clue what mine are like yet, just know they're play free.

So would that be two sets then Sir?  Wink  LOL

I decided I had more than enough things going on workwise and in the end Spooky got the things made instead.

Just thought,we're talking Gen 2 fitment here,if yours are worn you just need a new set of standard plates as it was only the Ohlins equipped Gen 2's that are prone to breaking.

Hi Ian, well as you know I'm on a superior Gen1 so clearly don't need a set
It's a good call for the flimsy Gen2 boys though

Good work Spooky.  I did this to my peg but used nylon washers.  I have found one washer chewed up a bit....weak anyway....so I have to agree that a bit of end float is good.  I might actually suggest that only 2 washers are needed, to keep the alignment and stop the plates rubbing the bone.....but so far, on my milley, not had any problems with 6 in.  They are really thin though, so I have some float.

I imagine the bone rides up against the plate eventually because all 3 bolt points are not exactly parallel with each other, like sliding down a slope, the bone eventually finds its side on a plate.
I think overall, the actual travel and movement is minimal and alignment is not a problem.  So I'm thinking you could actually get away with one washer in.....as the bone will always drift in the same direction.

6 in isn't overkill, it supports an extra barrier or protection against the seals, which has to be a good thing, as you dont really want to be splitting this apart every couple of services!!
