Aprilia,electrics,known issues?
Surely not ![]() Melted wiring is not good,I seem to recall that colour wire might be feeding the solenoid,if it is that could be your problem. |

I had this on my Gen 1 after returning from a ride. Switched off ignition and bike started turning over on the starter motor. It was the solinoid that was goosed (stuck on). Ordered the uprated one and problem solved.

Had this on a gen1 last year. Starter engaged and turning over with key removed. It flattened the battery in the end!!! Jumped it off and it never did it again! I've owned a few rsvs and a few alfas so have got used to weird electrical happenings!!! The gen2 uses canbus wiring which is known to have issues. If it's a recurring fault it needs investigating but it may be one of those "italianisms"!!!

i have re connected the battery and all seems ok ,started it up all seems sweet, i ended up putting the immobiliser back on and take a chance but when the bike is running the red n white wire from the main fuse is getting noticeably warm to the touch any one got any ideas about that

Immobilisor cannot directly start your bike so don't cut it open on that basis. it can allow the engine to run on without a key when knackered but has no feeds to the starter solenoid so cannot activate it.

I think the answer is probably something like ... although the wiring when new was probably just the safe side of adequate after the passage of years and resistance building up in joints and contacts it slowly at first then quickly becomes very inadequate.
Witness the thin gauge baling twine they used for battery power leads compared with say John's mega cabling, different world. |

I think Ian is spot on, the cables are often in bad condition by now, and actually hamper the starting of the bike as much as they aid it.
Reading your post, first job would be to replace the solenoid- as you have done- it doesn't take much to weld itself together, and if it's an old one, it can actually gain magnetism from the coil and hold itself in, I have seen that. Sounds like you've got it sorted though, well done. |

Also, what John tactfully failed to say is you could really do yourself and your bike a big favour by buying a set of uprated battery and earth leads from him.
Seriously it's probably one of the best and most common sense mods you can do to these bikes,no one sees it but then again what price do you put on reliability? |
