My first forum post and have spent last couple of months digesting all info available on RSV1000 Factory Gen 2 (twin) and looking to buy one. My questions:
1. At what year did the odometer reset issue cease to be an issue? (Assuming it did?) 2. I watched AP workshops vid replacing gen2 stator with one from a newer model (2008 tuono??) does this mean if i buy a 2009-10 gen 2 factory I wont have any issues? 3. How many miles or time between dog bone servicing? Is it rare to have to replace if you keep greased up? 4. Does anyone have a link to a history page showing the gen2 model colours by year? Is the black with gold frame available 2009-2010? Thanks and look forward to joining the RSV family soon, awesome bikes.

Good morning and welcome in.
I can only answer by my memory on these but try the search function as it may give you some of the answers clearer. 1. 04-05 bikes suffered with this reset problem. After that it was sorted. 2. The stator problem was cleared up after a certain engine number onwards. Iang and Spoonz have referred to the engine number somewhere on other posts. Personally I don’t feel it’s as bigger deal as whilst it’s an expensive part even a 2010 model is approaching 12 years old so if a part is worn and needs replacing so be it. I have had to do the stator from AP as you mention and yes my bill was large but I wanted to keep the bike so it made no odds. I’ve also a 2004 bike I use for racing still on the ‘faulty’ part and it’s 18 years old. I know it will need doing at some point but I will just replace the burnt out part as it happens. 3. Do it annually regardless and you probably will never need to replace it. If the bearings are worn I’d suggest using oem ones though they are a faff and oem bushes as I’ve seen irregular wear on caged bearings and pattern bushes. 4. The Black lion model was 06 and the grey lion 07. So yes you could find them later registered in those colours. I’ve seen red lion models on 09 and 10 plates and they were the same period for colours. Hope this helps and someone else may be able to be clearer or more specific. Cheers. |

The updated stator kit from Aprilia is over £1k. You can get a used motor with the updated parts ( if you can find one ) for less than that hence why you hear of some motor changes. Other than the stator there is very little differences from 04 to the end of production and not everything got better. ( oil pumps got worse)
If you can get a nice later bike, go for it but don’t write off earlier bikes. Even if an earlier bike ultimately needs a stator kit, chances are you paid way more than £1k less for it anyway. Having said that I know of gen 2’s on their first or second stator still. At maybe 18 years old I would say a new stator at say £150 is really just routine maintenance for its age.

I've had my rsvr since 2010 and use it as my daily commute. Although the clocks reset every time I take the battery out I'm guessing I have somewhere in the region of 60k on it. I am on my 3rd stator and both times have used the cheaper electricsworld pattern part with no problem. I am on my second dogbone, but because I ride through the winter with all the grit and salt on the road this I think is not too bad.

On the dog bone thing; I serviced mine a few weeks back and noticed the swing arm linkage bearing grease was a bit dirtier than the other 2 sets of needle rollers in the dog bone. I found the dust seals had worn and bought a set from a specialist supplier (a lot cheaper than oem). When they arrived I realised they were Viton and the dog bone seals had been replaced with similar items by the PO. Worth checking the seals as well as the bearings when the time comes. Fowlers parts catalogue quotes the seal dimensions, so it's easy to google for spares.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this bike ? Price is a bit premium but I want this colour with low miles as planning to keep and use for long time as a second bike. Any concerns regards mileage being so low ? (assuming this is genuine of course). Registration is stated in the advert. Also can anyone see any upgrades done or not done that i should be aware of? Really appreciate the help. |

Certainly looks very clean in the pictures.
Totally standard from what I can see even down to the rear sprocket. You should try and see it to ensure there is no bubbling on the tank but again pictures look clean. Mileage looks to be low and the tank protector again appears unmarked in the pictures, but photos do hide a lot. Ask for the history to back the mileage with mots and servicing as ideally it should be done annually regardless of miles. I can’t see any mods/upgrades in the supplied pictures. Interesting to know how old the tyres are. If you’re going to view there’s a few things to scrutinise such as the fork bottoms where they clamp for cracks etc. |

I suspect it’s been a garage queen as even the fastenings are spotless and they often are the first things to show salt damage and any neglect. Only thing I can think of that might need asking about is the tyres. If they are original with only 3k on them, they may not be worn but well past their best age wise.

Looks very good to me if a little bit expensive but factory bikes are on the up. I've had more than my fair share of these and it's 40mins from my house they are my local triumph dealer ( I now own a 675 Daytona) I'd be happy to have a look at it for you.

If you are passing by really appreciate any feedback. Id be looking to negotiate price down a bit but still a lot of bike for the money and would be a keeper so prepared to pay a bit over the odds. Love the daytona, not ridden one yet but on the list in the future, maybe if the 765 price drops a bit.

I don't pass it but I'd happily take a run up there, if the weather was decent it would be a good excuse for a ride as its a cracking road up there but if you cover my diesel I'll run up on my day off for you. They know me a bit up there, my father-in-law bought his 765 from them and I test rode it for him. Superb bike as is the Daytona, had to be to lure me away from the factory.

Subject to agreeing finances, may put down a returnable deposit this week subject to inspection. Dealer said its mint so fingers crossed.

Not a problem mate I'm doing loads of overtime atm anyway as we are so short staffed due to the VID. They are a decent dealer, bit slack on aftercare with my father-in-laws 765 but they did come good after I had a moan. Hope its as good as it looks.

I've seen dearer Jim but it's a little bit steep however if it's totally mint and that low mileage it's not ridiculous money. Doesn't seem to be winter bargains anymore.

Agreed bit heavy on the price and working on that with dealer!! Having said that when will the next pristine, original 3k miles rsv factory in black and gold turn up? Having always lost money on bikes I dont see why this one will he any different and will be a 2nd bike keeper, sub 1500 miles a year so hoping in 10 years time maybe i might break even but if not, 10 years of popping out to the shed with a cup of tea to drool over it will be money well spent! Still trying to convince my doris this is italian art and should really be given pride of place in the front room. My main bike is a ducati supersport which is a superb touring machine (with bar risers and comfort seat) in terms of balance between sports and touring with the character of a twin but the looks are a bit compromised and i want a weekend bike for a 50 mile blast with no rider aids and some more horse power.

Hahaha I've given up trying to get a bike in the house but I agree with you it certainly should be in there they are gorgeous bikes and will certainly be a fun bike for those blasts. I've toured on Gen2s and they aren't that uncomfortable but they definitely bring out the devil in you.
Be nice to see the two Italians together when, if you buy it.

Certainly looks nice.....reckon the scuff on the lower right belly pan would give you some leverage to knock a few quid off, or have the dealer sort it.

yeah it is mint, makes you not want to ride it.
at this low mileage if you started using it normally wouldn't it run into the normal run of the mill issues they usually do? the reason i went for this year when i bought mine is because i read on here Aprilia had rectified a few niggling issues. but you are right, looks stunning, and this is the exact one i would probably go for, can you believe the one i had is now back up for sale, it has 4 extra owners

Welcome Richard ![]() Whereabouts in N Wales are you? If you're local to Abergele and fancy a coffee and chat about Aprilias give me a shout. I would council you against having any dealings with our neighborhood Aprilia dealer though,Woodies are far more trustworthy.
