Falco 2000 W reg. Refuses to start for no reason that I can find. I replaced the side stand switch, tilt sensor, solenoid and battery, and it still just cranks over and will not run. Tried easy start and it fired a couple of times and back fired through the filter box. I reckon it may be the fuel pump, fuel pump relay or possibly the filter. Pump is in a full tank of fuel, so I will look at that last. I have located 4 relays under the tail cowl, I think it is one of the 2 middle relays, does anyone know which one it is?

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left

As Adam says.
Have you lifted the tank and accidentally pulled the connector plug apart as it stretched? Happens a lot.

Check is plugged in and making he prime whirl mentioned above

If it is priming then check you have a spark on each of the plugs. If it's cranking and moving fuel it would be stinking and the plugs soaked.

Had a look this morning, and the pump primes, but I replaced the fuel pump relay all the same (second from the back, next to the flasher relay). I changed the relay next to it and the engine spins much faster now, so I guess that was the engine stop relay. There is a smell of fuel from the rear and when I cranked it, it fired a few times, took the top off the airbox and tried easy-start with no joy. The only I have yet to check, is whether there is fuel being supplied while cranking. I will test this and the coil supply and take the plugs out later.

took the plugs out, sparking but wet, heated them with a blowtorch, refitted them and it started with loads of smoke. I guess it was the dud tilt switch and the 'bypassed' sidestand switch (previous owner) which stopped it starting originally, and just excess fuel / wet plugs which was just the problem after that.
I still have one concern, when I cranked it over, the excess gas sprayed over the panels and left a milky residue. It is raining here so it may just be the fuel mixing with the air, but do these engines have a tendency for head gasket leaks?

I've not heard of many head gasket issues. Nickyboy had one and I've only seen one another but there must be others.
A pressure test of each cylinder will highlight any issue if you are concerned

pleased you got her fired mate. A Gen2 I sold had the head gasket go a couple of weeks after I the new owner picked it up. Rare but it can happen

Started eventually again today and it smokes a bit of white smoke, so I will thrash it mercilessly for an hour or so and if it still smokes when I stop, I will order head gaskets.

That sounds about right, I'd change the plugs anyway, I had running problems when one of the plugs had a fault..

Sounds like the old Italian tune up done the job.

Is the battery fully fit? If not it won't spin quick enough to catch the spark  causing wet plugs and a no start issue, common issue

changed the plugs today, no change. Put in a pattern starter (arrowhead) from ebay - cost me £8.27 and £5.00 post and it spun over twice as fast as the old starter, didn't backfire or lock up like the old starter and started pretty much straight away. Total for the farm quad solenoid, plugs, used relays, starter, and chinese 125 sidestand switch was under £60 - cheap enough to make me happy Smile
