Heard through the grapevine today that Stoner will sit out most of 2009 MotoGP as his Scaphoid has ongoing problems.
Anyone heard anything on this ?

Stoner is Human after all!!! He,s not from the planet Zorb like Doohan & Rossi.
The scaphoid is one of the smallest bones in your body. When you lift any weight the whole of that weight is transfered through the scalphoid, which can be a tremendous amount for such a small bone, especially when you think of what some weight lifters can lift. When you brake the scaphoid you cannot even pick a pen up between your thumb and fore finger. The problem with healing a broken scaphoid is that the bone only has blood supply from one end. Hence if it is broken, then one side is not recieving blood to help it repair its self; so the healing process can be an age, particularly as there is a sparsity of muscles in this area to help buff the problem. It takes as long as it takes. Bone grafts can help but they are not guaranteed.
The problem with Stoner and his scaphoid is racing bikes for a living. All the G force of braking and accelerating are transfered through his scaphoid, the muscles in this area just arnt big enough to help the distribution of the forces, even though body weight and g force are supported at some extent by the inner thighs ,it all happens through the scaphoid. Continuanly riding with a weakness in this area will only prolong his recovery, and in fact it will get worse if not left to totally recover.
He will be a huge miss If he does drop out through injury. But The way work is this year i just might apply for his ride. Shy bairns dont get noWT!! Jools

Jesus, Stoner,s wrist cant be that bad after all. 1.3 seconds faster than anyone else in Jerez tests. Awsome!! Stoner has got to be from planet Zorb as was Doohan !!! Jools

Stoner has not done more than 6 laps in a test run since the end of last season.
that to me means 1 of 3 things.
1. He's so confident he doesn't feel he has too. (unlikely)
2. He can't because of wrist pain
3. He is playing a mind game that he is still hurt when he's not.
personally i think he struggles to put in many laps without pain but come the season opener with injections etc it should be better. If he's playing games he does so at his peril as Rossi is a past master at the phsycology game.
Personally i think Stoner has always been super fast over a few laps as per last year. Rossi is always stronger over a race distance but it always depends on whther he can stay close enough to attack and disrupt stoners race. For Rossi front row Qualifying is a must to be able to race with stoner in the early laps and prevent a insurmountable gap. Edited by Spoonz - 31 Mar 2009 at 10:55 |

I agree with the 3 points Spoonz says. Also his views.
Roll on Qatar, but we must remember that it is a track that suits the Ducati.
We also want more Laguna Seca type race battles this year.

Now Stonner is out, for the time being, the problem now my guess is psychological rather than his wrist. His symptoms are almost identical to when an athlete has overtrained and their performance hits the wall. Personally it could take a while till he is firing on all cylinders. One good cure would be to give him my job and my bills and my wage to boot. This reality check should sort him. While im on the subject of $ and Ducati, i think i might give Ducati a call and ask if i can have Kalio,s ride. I will definately be sh*te but i,ll save them a shed load of dosh cos i,ll be going that slow i wont be parking the bikes on top of the tyre wall!! Jools
