I’m going on a Bikesafe course next weekend, with the local Police. This involves a free two and a half hour assessment. Whilst I’ve got respect for these biking boys-in-blue something just feels Wrong. Anyone got any experience of these? Or warnings? I've been Flying under the Radar for 30 years, am i drawing unwanted attention to myself, or am i just being too suspicious?

I went on something similar about 5 years ago in Hampshire. The bike cops who ran it did so on a volountary basis, with the police authority chipping in with the use of the plodmobiles and the classroom. It ran over 3 successive Sundays, with the first being in the classroom, the rest on the road. It was brilliant. We "made progress" with marked police bikes following us (you should've seen the looks on the car drivers' faces as we overtook). We learned about intelligent road positioning, anticipation and observation skills, and defensive riding techniques. It made me a faster and safer road rider. Also taught me that you can never outrun those boys on real roads, even if they are on Pan Europeans. Can't reccommend it highly enough. Syd

I'm hoping this will be similar, though it is just a few hours. I did an advanced course with the police 22 years ago over several weeks. I was similarly pleased and impressed. I might report back if anyone is interested. These courses are free of charge and take place all over the country. Application forms can be found on the net.

Yes, report back indeed, Dave. A bloke on my shift handed me the leaflet a few weeks ago, and has been bugging me to sign up with him and go and do one of these courses. I'd be interested to hear how you got on with your one. Cheers.

Hi their, I did a day with the Kent police last summer, It was a fantastic day being give advice on how good or Bad my riding was on a vast amount of different roads. The best thing was that they were their to give advice, and not nick you for a loud can, small plate or black visor(RSVR 2003 AKAS + Black Visor). Although it took a while getting use to seeing a police bike in my mirrors a great day out. Enjoy your day! Hoping to do another day with Kent Police. Its best kept on one wheel. Ha!!!

Gonna sign up with my mate at work and do this. I'll hopefully get pics of it too, I'll get my bikecam hooked up for it too, as long as they allow it.
