I was hoping that perhaps someone on this forum would be able to steer me in the right direction.
My radiator has conveniently sprang a leak in time for summer, 25k miles on the bike so done alright I guess. I can find a number of new aluminium radiators on the bay to fit the 2006 and up tuono for circa £120 but nothing specifically for the rsv1000r. If they're interchangeable tho I'm onto a winner, happy to be the first Guinea pig unless someone else has done it and I can buy with confidence 👍 Kind regards a relatively new RSVR owner

They are the same part but do be prepared for some fettling to get them to fit if (and I pretty much guarantee they will be ) they hail from the Orient. Nothing major but things like fillet welds where the oe mounts were staked meaning you may end up relieving the shrouds to fit properly. Also the top mounting brackets MAY be slightly out of position meaning you need to shim the mounting bolts with stainless washers to get a good fit. On mine I also found the drain plug was just supplied with a caphead screw and a small O ring, use the oe bolt with a washer instead ![]() Other than that they work well and look really good, just be aware if you get a polished one you''ll spend time after every ride laboriously picking dead flies out of the cooling fins as they really show up and spoil the look ![]() ![]() |

That's precisely the part I've found on eBay, really helpful advise 👍.
Figured buying even a Chinese one is a slightly better bet than chasing my tail continuously with a 17 year old one that's leaking. Did you find you were able to re use all the OEM bolts etc such as the bleed screw top right and how did the filler cap attachment bolt up? Luckily theirs not too many shrouds right up against the radiator on the rsv1000r I can see, unless mine have been crashed off by a previous owner £ Haha picking flies out of a polished radiator would definitely make my OCD happy

I can recall shimming the top mounts with washers but mine was fitted to a Tuono so the plastics were probably different and you won't have any issues. As for the drain and bleed screws the ones they supplied leaked so I used different screws and washers instead of (or maybe as well as) an o ring The filler cap was a pita for me and needed a fair bit of plastics relieving to clear the welding, also due to the way the new boss is welded then drilled and tapped I seem to recall the holding screw not being very sucessfull,I used a suitable length of stainless studding (m6? can't recall?) loctited into the boss and used a stainless washer and nut instead of the oe fastener so that the alloy wasn't fatigued by any maintenance in the future. How much of this will be relevant to the Rsvr I'm not sure but I think I'm right in saying Griff may have run into some of the same issues I had when he worked a similar unit to Cwp's old Tuono so chances are all the oriental rads are probably made the same way in the same shop. Hopefully it'll be plain sailing for you,but value for money compared with what Aprilia want for a genuine rad means it's well worth a few hours aggro I reckon. Also I seem to think these aftermarket units are a denser core so more efficient at shedding heat.

Thank you very much.
All super useful gen especially seeing as it's literally the exact same unit I've ordered now "I went for non polished tho" mines hidden Within my fairings and in my ownership atleast a rad guard .Hopefully some decent washers and maybe some Sealant will prevent any leaks. Il measure the core depth when it arrives Vs the old and then the next to stumble Across this can perhaps Be assured They're getting something with better performance too

The other option is to have your old one re-manufactured. There must be a local rad shop somewhere near you

You'd think so wouldn't you? I previously had my SVthou rad re cored but by the time I needed the T doing that shop had gone out of business and I couldn't find anyone localish interested in doing an alloy rad. Loads of shops prepared to re core old brass and metal ones but none would touch a small ali bike unit, may well be different now though, but at that time £120 delivered for a claimed 'larger capacity?' unit compared with the £450+ postage that Aprilia wanted was a really good deal I thought. It's still doing well and looking only a little dulled now a couple of years later so I still reckon it was a good deal for me and I'd be surprised if a re core would be much if any cheaper these days, but at least I suppose it would be guaranteed to be a perfect fit without any fettling. None of this is probably an issue with the bodywork on a faired bike though, just that everything is open to scrutiny on a Tuono. |

Having now fitted the radiator and been able to take the bike for a few run outs since.
It fits albeit with a little fettling. Generally the quality isn't comparable to OEM But still impressive and functional enough. Issue's I had fitting mine were, the fan brackets needing heating and bending slightly to fit the oe fans And the holes for the rubber gromits where marginally smaller thus needed drilling out. The bleed and drain screws were a flanged bolt with rubber O ring I swapped these for the oe Allen key bolts a small copper Washer and some loctite 513 flange sealant the mating surface is nice and flush and it's sealed perfectly. The wiring plastic brackets had nowhere to attach I opted to still wrap the cabling in the bracket to help it stand proud of the surface of the radiator and I also encased them in heat proof ally tape no issues so far and I shouldn't expect any either. The filling cap attachment location is a circular threaded puck which fits nicely inside of the base where the original nut shaped attachment would have gone, I used a short flared nut to secure this, again it's secure and works fine. As for the physical size and attachments it's perfect and a direct swap, my temperature is also good. At £120 a good alternative to the aprilia part, strangely enough after purchasing one they offered me a second at £97 so price may have reduced. Your results may vary, Any questions or concerns I'm more than happy to help. I'l try shortly to upload some photos for visual reference

Glad it worked out for you. For the price they're really good value I think,I think the re core I had done years ago cost me £150+ so a complete unit for less is a no brainer. I think Chinese stuff always needs a bit of fettling to fit but compared with the rip prices Aprilia charge it's still well worth the hassle. |
