I'm looking to get a Tuono later in the year, and I just wanted to ask those who know, what I should expect for around £4.5-5k.
That's probably gonna be my top budget, and I really like this Gen 2 black & red/orange version Tuono these guys have for sale. Do you think this is about what I should pay, (or slightly less for a private sale) My criteria would be: Gen 2 R (Can't handle the gold frame of a Factory, despite it being a better bike I know) Immaculate Low mileage Proper service history - ideally from AP Workshops Not fussed about upgrades, but any decent suspension mods would be nice, Akrapoviks, the usual quality components. One major question I have though: Does the Gen 2 Tuono suffer this annoying clock reset issue if battery is flat or disconnected? Or was it solved after a particular year? That could be a problem for me as I don't have power to the lock up where bike will be stored, so I'd have to disconnect the battery & charge it indoors. Regularly messing up the mileage count would be a right pain. Any other tips & recommends for a nice Aprilia in the £5k region would be welcome. If only I had the money now - there are a few gems I've missed recently :-( Cheers

the V4s are cheap, i think all gen 2s have the clock reset issue but im not 100 percent one of the more knowledgeable fellas will come through on that one shortly

i think there is a sequence you go through with the key in the ignition to stop the bike resetting the clocks

Tuono’s have never had a mileage reset issue it was only 03/04 gen 2 rsv’s so don’t worry about that.

click reset is the least of your worries
burnt out stators is the main one and over a £1k bill to replace with the lower power stator kit

Yikes! Is that the case with all Gen 2's? Might have to save a bit more and go for Jims advice on V4 for that repair cost.

Sold mine last month 07 bike on 08 plate,around 28k miles, renthals, akras, nitron shock, serviced by griff, upgraded airbox, rearsets, oberon slave cylinder, aprilia touring pillion seat, upgraded stator, puig screen. Think i let it go too cheap lol. Not to worry lol

Clocks no issue at all
Stator like all parts can wear out and it wouldn’t put me off. I have in the past paid for the upgrade and still think the ownership was worth it. You can just replace the burnt out stator and gamble the length of its life if you’re handy with tools. Easily change it four plus times for less than a grand if you’re capable. If looking at the V4, V4 from 2017 onwards as they are much better and compared to earlier models have little issue. Valve recession on RSV4’s is an issue on the earlier bikes, but not on the Tuono due to steel valves, not the titanium ones the RSV4 used to Rev higher. Both had gearbox issues and I saw many at Griffs with major rebuilds required. So I’d opt for the V2 mainly or the V4 from 2017 onwards if a budget went that far. |

The factory I find is very hard on suspension as I didn’t find on a r model I rode , as I have an 09 factory the bling is nice , I had the fogging dash done under warranty after 3k now I have the glass cracking problem , the later bikes had a lower output generator no problem with mine at this time with over 20k good luck 🤞

GenII issues:
*Early models (check engine No) can suffer premature stator failure. *Rear brake goes soft (easy fix, relocate the m/c) *Clocks don't reset..but they do have a tendenct to fog on the bottom r/h corner. Take milages on GenII's with a pinch of salt...a huge percentage had replacement clocks, which reset the milage back to zero. *Rear suspension needs servicing regularly.... *Look for frame damage behind brake pedal. Insurers consider it a write off. *Swingarm can crack between rivnuts, supposed to have been swapped out on a recall, but loads weren't done. Other than that.... I loved mine...an amazing bike. DO consider a Factory though....don't let the sh!t frame colour put you off, you can always wrap it for a few ££. It's way superior...Ohlins suspension, carbon goodies (£500 bellypan) Lightweight forged Oz wheels.... |

Only that one at carlharrismotorcycles in the orig link.
2006, 13,000 miles, pretty std and £4195. They look like a good dealer with loads of Italian v twin experience, but don't know them from experience. Shame I don't have the money just yet or I'd happily take the 2.5 hr drive over there to look at it.

Cheers Tifa, some useful advice there. Especially your last 2 points.
I've been educating myself about the whole charging issue, and looks like people have a few ways of looking at it. Funny that to me, buying a bike in the 2006-8 era is new but obv most people see that as an old bike. Which I guess it is. Good point on wrapping the frame. Will defo consider the factory. |

this one here? looks great i mean in the pictures there is snow on the deck, maybe he's had it a while come in at 3800? im not clued up on tuonos but its a standard model so se if he will take an offer. is financing it not an option? also this is actually quite near me.

Yep, that's the one Jim. Unfortuntely finance isn't really an option. Various reasons. But if I had the dosh I'd definitely put in a cheeky offer. I might also see what's aboyt when I've got about £2.5k saved up - if there's a tasty Falco for sale then I might go that route - just to get riding again. Cheers.
