I posted a similar thread some time ago but still have the problem
I have a tapping noise, usually not straight away on startup. I have had this for two years now. shims done, both cam chain tensioners changed. someone suggested a loose valve seat, but after two years i'd be surprised if it hadn't completely failed by now any ideas ? have a listen to the video, it sounds like top end somewhere i'd welcome your thoughts cheers Miff ...and yes my fork is oily ;0)

That would bug me as it's bugging you.
I hear it and agree, but noise can transmit so hard to say unless the experience has been had by someone already. As for the loose valve seat,no. The chance of that rattling like that and relocating in the correct orientation every opening is almost nil Is the noise there from cold? Does it get progressively worse ? How's the oil pressure? How's the performance? Here's some guesses. Cam chain guides. Little end bush. Balance shaft . Not a great deal of help really as it's difficult to say unless it's some thing someone recognizes. Regards Shyted. |

Some motors are just generically more noisy. My Gen2 motor was significantly more rattly than my Gen1 especially when it's hot. Much of it was injector noise possibly from the larger TB's magnifying the noise ?
Of the more likely rattles beyond what you have already tried would be clutch release bearing or balance shaft but to be honest I doesn't sound much different than I remember my Gen2 being. I remember queuing to get off a ferry once and the bike got really hot and it sounded like a bag of nails.

Thanks all.
It generally doesn't start being noisy until it gets warm, and then only once I have blipped the throttle. It's done it ever since I bought the bike. Temperature runs about 85 degrees, no issues with oil pressure warnings, and the front cam chain guide has been changed with both tensioner when the shims were done. I generally can't hear it over the exhausts, so sod it ;) Miff. |
