Brake question

When cold and with the bike at rest, the front brake lever has 1/3rd travel till no more pressure can be applied, as (i assume) the brake temp increases with use, the lever travel lessens until the brakes become very sharp and (initially) unpredictable, any one else have this happen???  I expect it now, so it doesn't come as a surprise when I'm pressing on a tad, but it does concern me, I've had brake fade before, but never brake regeneration!!!
