Right, the bike now has an MOT and all is well in hand for the Euro trip - Friday night!
One small spanner in the works........ The neutral light comes on when the clutch is pulled in when the bike is in gear?! The light goes out as soon as the clutch lever switch contacts the lever - if I pull the lever just enough so the switch clicks, the neutral light comes on. Now, the bike runs and goes as it should; however, as soon as the bike is moving (in gear, clutch out) the right hand dash display flashes 'EFI'. As soon as the clutch switch is cleared, the 'N' comes on and the display returns to the 'Temp' display.......... Any ideas anyone???
(I have the wiring diagram from the tech. manual, think I'll check the diode pack / connections - it seems all the switches go through the diode pack prior to the dash light. All other switches seem okay? I will ride it 'as is' if the problem isn't a quick fix - running out of time!!) |

You have an earth issue there somewhere.
The neutral light must be getting earthed but the clutch switch wiring.
Have a good look round the wiring of the stand switch/clutch switch and neutral switch

I think I know the problem! Earlier on this week during first run of the bike I had an issue with the sidelight/dash fuse blowing (fuse D, blowing 15A fuse when sidelights switched on) I found the 2 pin connector for the clutch switch connected to the 2 pin sidelight output!!
Reconnected clutch switch - to correct connector (same size different wire colours, d'oh!)
Rode bike for first time today and found this issue.......
I guess the sidelight switch has fed 12v directly to the diode pack (at 15A) and has damaged the pack?
Just finished checking the diode connector block
Pin 1 direct continuity to neutral switch (0.8 ohm) with it in neutral, open circuit in gear
Pin 2 }
Pin 3 } feed to start relay - all okay.
Pin 4 direct continuity to clutch switch, and ecu, 2.80v / 0.00v
Pin 5 direct continuity to clutch switch, and ecu, 3.50v / 0.00v when switched
Bike will not turn over with the diode pack disconnected - start relay connections.
No other shorts / open circuits, earths good. I think the diode pack is faulty.
Now, where can I get one delivered to Swindon by tomorrow from??!!!
Just need a nice new one and same day delivery (Friday PM at the latest) - anyone have a spare?!

Sorted, spoke to the friendly chap at RSVR about the diode pack, and, though he didn't have one, suggested I spoke to Jon @ Bikersworld in East Grinstead (nr Gatwick), he wasn't available so I spoke to Anita, very nice and happily they had 1 in stock - tidy!
5 hrs, 247 miles and three accidents on the M25 later and the Falco has a full compliment of lights when it should - dare I say it? I'm almost done...............
As a side note, the Golf GTTDI I just bought the mrs returned 61mpg on a run - blimey, think I best get rid of me Saab - 22mpg at best :(
Right, what's the weather like in France???

Yep, had to be done!!
All good now
(the accidents weren't mine, just crazy tin can drivers trying to fight trucks @ 55mph when the traffic is nose to tail and 5 lanes wide!!) Edited by popes996 - 28 Aug 2008 at 18:16 |

2300 miles and 7 days later, the end of a great holiday, the bike did well, the only issues being a split blanking hose from the front throttle body (causing spit back and a lack of power) and a weeping slave cylinder - easily sorted though. The Pirelli Dragons are officially hard wearing, no discernible wear to the front and minimal flattening of the rear, the same can't be said of the front sprocket, causing a catching / snatching between 4500 - 6000 rpm - new kit ordered. Quick question, why has the rear shock only got rebound adjustment?? (Or am I missing something??) |
