I'd guess the cable to the rear wheel sensor,or the sender unit itself.

I gather these are prone to glitches, understandable when you think where they are.

If it is at that end then I think it's a straightforward unplug and replace with a new unit job.

Before you chuck the current one and buy another, have a quick look at the cable where it joins near the rear of the tank/seat area by means of a white plastic clip connector. I've went through a couple of speedo sensors myself over the years but the last time one played up on me I checked the white plastic connector and it had managed to work itself loose somehow so it wasn't making 100% contact. I undid it, cleaned up the connections and sprayed it with some electrical contact cleaner.

That was about two years ago. It's worked fine since. Thumbs Up

If that doesn't work then there's not much else that can be done apart from buy a replacement. They aren't really servicable although another thing you can do is carefully remove the black plastic sleeve around the wire and then check the wires for any breaks or damage with a view to a possible repair. A guy over on the RSVZone made his own replacement sensor using some fairly inexpensive components but I'm no electrical genius so I was kinda lost reading how he did it. LOL

I'm sure somebody put a post up saying that the rs125 speedo sensor is the same and a fraction of the cost.
silver and black now there is no going back!

Up and running again, splashed out for a genuine rsv item just shy of 90 quid, looked at the rs125 one but the sensor was a slightly different shape so gave it a miss. Cheers again for the advice.
