I bought my Mille last year without seeing it - the first sight I had of it was when the chap I sent to collect it turned up at my house. That was a private sale as well. I spoke with the seller and got a good feeling, he did a video walk round and so on.

I think you'd have decent protection with buying from a dealer because Distance Selling Regulations would apply, giving you a 14 day right of return.

Yep. Bought my RSV from Hunts without seeing it must be 10 years ago so it was not so common then. We exchanged loads of photos, I px'd a 99 R1, lad turned up with the RSV in a van, checked mine over, checked I has happy & he went on his way. A great bike, why did I sell it, & Hunts did everything they said they would.

You'll be fine if the shop are offering you to refuse it if you aren't happy with the bike. You have that extra security of buying from a dealer too. I sold my 1198 to a guy in Kent who I sent a video and lots of pictures and was delighted with it when he got it (was immaculate). I would never miss sell anything but that can't be said for everyone.

Yep....I bought a Yamaha V-MAX from a dealer in Manchester back in 2009. It had 3000 miles on it and was mint...relied on photos sent by the dealer so took a gamble....I wasn't disappointed thankfully as I had to travel up from West Cornwall with a hired van to bring it back.

I used to sell them parts and paint (cars) in the past and they were certainly, at the time at least, a quality outfit.

I've bought 3 bikes in the past this way and never regretted it.  Just ask the right questions, get copies of service history and look up MOT history online and ask for plenty of detailed photos.  Most outfits will chuck in delivery for free.  I have yet to pay for delivery as the bike's prices had enough meat to cover that anyway.  The asking price is a starter for ten.

My recent RSVR purchase was done this way and besides a few minor cosmetic issues it was as described.

You soon get a feeling about a bike from how the seller comes across on the 'phone.   Legit outfits will aim to please and go the extra mile and never shy away from providing any info you ask for.  Any that have done, I've put the phone down.

Yup.
Ebay.
Sunday night.
4 cans of lager
1 bottle of wine.
Woke up Sunday morning to discover I'd bought a bike.
Was my GenII Tuono.
Best mistake ever.

Got my last three bikes from dealers without seeing or trying them first including my Gen 2 Tuono, not had any issues other than hoping I could touch the floor when I collected a KTM Super Adventure.

yea i have bought a slew of cars and bikes all through ebay, auto trader has a lot less recourse,

i recently bought a ML63 AMG for me mum and instantly had it inspected by brabus in chelmo, it was a dog, one email. not even a call an email to ebay with the report from water house and bang, money back.

and recently with a dogg of a gen 2 that i bought. got every penny back.

its got to the stage where ebay is the only place id consider buying a car, even if i see it in person i would check if it was on ebay and click buy it now on there. i cant stress enough the buyers protection you get,

hi mate,

great bike i my self have just got a RF the 17 and 18 year are the exact same bike apart from a slightly different paint scheme,

i don't know if you have ridden one before i used the traction paddle shifters to change it to max on my first ride hahaha, i set the wheelie control to half then went into the options menu and change the AWC button to cruise control, one of my favourite features of these beasts, in terms of the exhaust you wont get a quite one without the servo motor and homologated akra, if you where to change to a slip on its still without the servos and cat they are all bloody loud.

also if you have a smart phone give the V4 app a go i log all of my journeys and fuel consumption etc, it saves all rider telemetry and can track your bikes location.

i currently have 4 different sportbikes and test rode all of the new bikes including a MV Augusta and this is by far the best bike i have ever owned.

im actually quite excited for you as crazy as that sounds i cant stress enough. best bike for under 20k... easily.

hi mate, never to old, its great to meet someone not chucking the towel in and getting a sit up right job,

if the bikes been flashed without the race ECU then they would of overwritten one of the stock maps, that amazing power, i have a printout with mine at 193rw so it goes to show that these bikes are definitely playing in the deepened, 44teeth did a shootout between the 18 rf and 18 V4S and the RF did a better time, again they are the real deal.

as far as rider modes all 3 are full power but what changes is the delivery and engine breaking in race mode when you shut off the throttle its like you have the brakes half on!! so watch out for that, when i first got it and wanted to feel it out i left it in Sport, i have now got up to the track mode and the response is savage - around town Sport is perfect the response is perfect for in and out traffic etc race mode feels strange it just feels full on all the time and im not that good. but changing it on the fly as your moving is easy, just press the starter button and it flashes on screen then leave it.

what took a few rides was just keeping the throttle pinned as i banged it up the box, its an amazing sensation and then again keeping it open as you go down the box..ooofff - a crazy feeling. all without the clutch, the bike works a lot better even at low speeds with clutch less shifts up or down.

I'm 5 11 and also tiptoe with sidi boots on. So I couldn't imagin lowering it 2 or more inches without destroying your geometry . It is a really tall bike but with a tiny workspace. You could try taking some height out off your rear shock Google or youtube "adjusting ttx rear shock" but I'm afraid the long and short of it is it's always going to be a 33inch+ ride. I usually just keep my left leg down.
