Just bought a 56 plate Aprilia Pegaso Strada, only 6000 miles and in pretty amazing nick.
Just for commuting and pottering around, the RSV is a pain for that sort of riding. Anyway, I'd read the low throttle fuelling was pretty bad, but it's worse than I expected. I also get a lot of popping on the overrun, both when revving it at a standstill and running. Fuel throttle is fine, it idles fine, there's no fault lights. Is this just the way they are, or should I consider getting the throttle body/Co2 and other things checked out?

Snap got one couple of months back for same reasons. There's an air valve on exhaust port that causes popping so normal good for filtering wakes up the cage drivers. Look on AF1 pegaso section sticky there with tips air box snorkal mod improves 3k to 4k surging.

Interesting, have you tried the mods yourself? Do you have a link to the sticky, I can only see three and none of them are fuelling related?

Oops, I was looking in the Pegaso 650 forum, didn't notice there's a separate one for Strada bikes from 2006 onwards.

Its Apriliaforum AF1 Racing. Snokol had been done badly when put back in hadn't been seated in grove properly so made air restriction worse. lot better when it could breath. already had a K&N air filter.

Going to try the snorkel mod tonight, also ordered an iridium plug.
Not bothering with K+N, I've already ordered a genuine Aprilia air filter as god knows when the one in it was changed. Think I'll keep the standard pipes too, two noisy bikes might be too much for the wife/neighbours.

Ach well, iridium plug is ordered now, wasn't expensive.
Looking forward to trying the snorkel mod. Did you bother with silicone sealant where the snorkel slots back into the airbox? |

Just done the mod at work, I think I've got the snorkel back in place OK.
Didn't have silicone, just sort of shoved it into place as best I could. It's not as if I'll be riding it in biblical floods, I really don't think water ingress into the airbox will be an issue. I'll maybe run around the rim with silicone at home later. Definitely a bit more induction noise than before, hopefully it'll run better now too.

Very pleased with the airbox mod, has made a good difference to the running.
Whereas before it felt like it was going to stall when I took off from lights, it now just pulls normally. Evidently I was revving the bike into that awful 3000-4000rpm zone when pulling away, hence the feeling of going to stall and lurching. |

Yeah, I would say I can live with it too.
Bit of a shock going down to 40(ish) bhp though. I'd be as well replacing the throttle with an on/off switch, it's just nailed all the time.

How you getting on with your Pegaso?
The lack of power is getting to me a bit, I find I just have to basically 'go with the flow' in traffic as overtaking just isn't nippy enough to get past groups of cars. So the only real advantage I get over taking the car is when it comes to stationary traffic. I find myself wishing I was on the RSV, which kinda defeats the purpose of having the Pegaso at all.... |
