Topic: Brake upgradePosted: 10 Dec 2015 at 22:05 |

Hi all,
As I am planning a few upgrades over the winter to my 07 Gen 2 tuono R including a 1060 big bore, an overhaul of the front brakes also seems sensible but I have some questions I am hoping the wise members can help me with: Master Cylinder A Brembo RCS is obviously the way to go but 18mm or 20mm ratio? I have read that 18 is best for street and 20 is best for track so which one? I also noticed that Brembo does one master cylinder with interchangeable ratios which sounds like the best of both worlds, is this the case and does it deliver? Calipers Is there anything to be gained by changing my old school monoblock calipers for more modern stuff but the question is, which ones and are there any OE items from other bikes i.e 1198 Ducati (that would be cheaper on flea bay) and would bolt straight on and when combined with the master cylinder deliver a real benefit? Any ideas gratefully received. Fuggers

The stock ratio is 18 and there is a train of thought that says 20 makes it harder to modulate your braking in tricky conditions. I don't think there is a right or wrong but 20 might require a big more finesse.
If your calipers are stock then they are not monobloc just radial. The monoblocs do offer better power but it's not night and day imo. When I tested some Ducati's the 330mm discs over 320mm made a bigger difference but you would need spacers on the calipers as per Ducati use. 330mm and Monobloc's together are awesome. |

I didn't bother with the RCS because Brembo do both a normal 19x18 and also the 19x18 RCS too and the only difference is the RCS is more expensive and looks that little but flashier, when all is said and done a 19x18 is a still a 19x18, I swapped out the standard Brembo radial calipers on my 05 Factory too for the ones off a 2012 Speed Triple but that was for looks more than anything as they are a different colour and the Brembo logo is powder coated in red.
The brakes stopped the bike on it's nose with 1 finger ![]() |

Simple and 100% improvement if you haven't done it already. Buy some AP rear sets then you have a reliable fully functioning rear brake.
Overhaul the fronts and rear (new master and caliper seals).Motul Extra high temp brake fluid, it's not cheap and not necessary but it's really good. Not got experience with Brembo RCS but read an article in Performance bikes recently about a guy who fitted Ductile iron discs,SC pads and an adjustable ratio master to his Mille and he said that the master cylinder made the biggest impact to braking and further improved with the fitment of the discs and SC pads. How far do you want to go is the question.

Having ridden my sons RSV4 the brake are stupendous and show mine up as old technology. They have been stripped, thoroughly cleaned and have fresh fluid and they are good but I just know that they could be a lot better.
Think I am going for a radial master cylinder and M4 monoblocks as a start then may go to 330 discs but we shall see. Fugly

The feature was on my bike but the Brembo master is the none rcs model 19/18 ratio and it made a big difference. Had it on for about 8 years now and it's still one of the best upgrades for the money that I have done.

Yep definitely worth it, making them go faster is great but stopping them even more so.

Hello chap. I've got a gen 2 Tuono and I got hold of some 1098 M4 monoblocks off of the bay, stuck those on and got Griff at AP to knock me up some new brake lines(which you will need due to the fittings being different on the calipers) and then upgraded the pads to SBS sintered(I've tried Road and race and prefer race sintered) and that all made a decent difference but I have got a adjustable ratio accossato master cylinder to go on over the winter which should step it up another notch.
Not sure how much difference the M4 calipers make on their own to be honest but they do look the dogs

Cheers Padded cell,
Wasn't aware I would need different lines, will look at that. Fuggers

Yep standard lines bolt on the end of the master and radial underneath and you don't have enough free play.
