Recently had to disconnect the battery. When I reconnected it, everything powers up fine but instead of getting a flashing "cold" as normal, I get DIAG 1. Any ideas how to clear it? It's an 02 Mille Thanks in advance

Thank you, Who would have thought that 2 wires with matching connectors should be left open? You would have thought Aprilia would put them in stowage so people who like tinkering (me) don't go messing it all up. Anyway, disconnected them and everything is back to normal, so thank you kind sir. It wasn't me officer, honest!

i was told today by an Aprilia spanner monkey that you connect these two when you change from standard can to a can that lets hard of hearing people hear you ( aren't we thoughtful people ), he said that you need to get DIAG 1 on your dispaly then disconnect them, he said it should then run OK with the hard of hearing can. he said DIAG 1 is not a fault code. hope this helps.[:D][:D]

sequence for getting DIAG 1 remove offside infill panel, connect the two open ended wires, switch on ignition BUT DO NOT START, slightly depress the engine cut off switch until DIAG 1 appears ( if it doesn't appear straight away keep trying )then swict off ignition and disconnect the two wires.[;)] The voices made me do it Officer

Hmmmm. Your spanner monkey's up the wrong tree! I believe 'DIAG1' just tells you that the bike's in diagnostic mode, ready to be...er...diagnosed. The thing you MUST do if you're putting a race can on is to make sure the bike's derestricted - wire snip in the 'brain' under the rear seat to switch the chip to no. 2 map, then the air restrictor out of the airbox. Nothing else will make the bike run safely on a race can - and by 'safely' I mean without damaging the engine. A lot of bikes (pre the latest model) were derestricted by dealers at the first service - my first Mille ('98) was, but my second ('02) wasn't. Its important - ask any proper Aprilia dealer - RSVR.net would be a good start. There used to be so much info on here, you could find the answer to just about anything - I hope it gets that way again! Pete

Diag -1, Diag 0 and Diag 1 are not error codes. For a list of "true" error codes, look here:- http://www.apriliaforum.com/techtips/1000/faultcodes.htm As far as Diag -1/0/or 1 go, they refer to the TPS ( Throttle Position Sensor) and the value refers to what its set at. Diag 0 is spot on, if you get either -1 or 1, it needs slight adjustment. The bike will still run pretty much as normal with any of the codes, either -1 or 1, but not to its "optimal" capability. There are details of how to adjust the TPS located in the link below, or you could leave it to your dealer to do. Dunno if I would trust the guy who told you it was related to race cans to do it though!!!?? Anyway, details of adjustment are here:- http://www.geocities.com/sl_mille/idle.html
